5 Effortlessly Easy Chic Holiday Hairstyles

Posted by Alexandra C. | Thursday December 6, 20125 comments

I dream of the day that I can pull a Katniss Everdeen style intricate braid on myself, but chances are, I'm going to be dreaming for a long time. While these crazy braids and detailed styles are awe-inspiring, they're also (like, really, really) hard. Let's get real: I am not going to attempt to do that.

I'm a big fan of anything easy but at the same time, I still want to look cute. I don't want sloppy styles, especially when it comes to my hair for the holiday season and all the parties and gatherings I will attend. So, I rounded up five hairstyles that (I swear) are totally effortless and take as little hair do know how as possible.

For realsies guys, if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Style #1: The Top Knot

Okay, so the top knot isn't exactly a game changer. It's been on any and every head for the past few seasons, but there's a reason for that: they're crazy simple to pull off and look chic as heck. Whether you want to do a smooth, sophisticated look or go for a textured, messy approach, the top knot can be achieved in just minutes with few products and it shows off your gorgeous face. I usually back comb and secure a ponytail but a sock bun is also a nifty item to have on hand for this.

Check out this video on different bun styles and this one on a five minute ballerina bun

Style #2: The Textured Side Part

DKNY gave their models a deep, side swept part for their spring 2013 show (left) and even though this is just a quickie style, it totally changes how your face looks. It also gives your hair volume and texture for a beachy, relaxed and natural look. It's casual but still put together, feminine and pretty.

Style #3: Twisted Side Pony Tail

I love it when I don't need to continually rewatch a hair tutorial and keep pausing every two seconds in order to actually get what's going on. This tutorial only requires a few hair elastics and a couple minutes of your time. I think it looks great. It's a little rougher for a boho inspiration, but done in a sleeker style, it could be quite glamorous.

Style #4: Adding an Accessory

So you need to get to the party and you only have two minutes on the subway to do your hair? Headband it, ladies. The statement headband is a quick addition that adds sparkle, glitz and glam to a basic hairstyle. Even if your hair is in the same chignon from work, a cute clip on the side adds a little something. It looks like you put lots of effort into it, even if you actually used the subway window as a mirror.

Style #5: The Sleek Pony Tail

A little serum or smoothing cream goes a long way with this style. With a middle or side part, comb back your hair and secure it at the nape of your neck. It may not seem like much, but this style oozes class. It's understated but elegant and it will let you and your gorgeous face shine through.

Now let me introduce you to your new BFFs chicks. Here are some great products to keep around for your easy but oh-so cute holiday styles:

I do the 'top knot' all the time. That and the "intentionally messy bun". Glad they aren't going out of style xD

I love the Twisted Side Pony Tail and would love to try it in my hair. I think my hair's long enough, but it's so thin that it might just fall apart as soon as I moved.
