Beauty Essentials with SPF

Spring cleaning your closet is so cathartic - out with the old, in with the new, right? (Especially shopping for the new!)

But before putting on that fabulous new spring ensemble and packing a picnic for the park, don’t forget to take care of the one fashion statement that never goes out of style: beautiful skin.

For the Face

To achieve and maintain radiant skin, sunscreen should be used year round to protect your skin from ultra violet rays. By opting for a drugstore body sun block which is just as effective as higher priced versions, you can now afford to splurge - just a little! - on a great multitasking facial moisturizer like Clinique’s new Youth Surge.

This SPF 15 morning moisturizer not only hydrates the skin, it slows down and helps repair the signs of aging while simultaneously working as a primer for your make-up.

Clinique.com, $48.50

After applying your SPF enhanced moisturizer, get added sun protection with a (tinted) foundation and/or powder that contains SPF. DiorSkin Forever Extreme Wear Flawless makeup SPF 25 is silky smooth and gives you a perfect color match for a natural even-toned glow.

Amazon.com, $41.85

The skin on your face is very sensitive but not as sensitive as your lips. Protect your puckers and prevent dry, chapped, and burnt lips by applying a hydrating moisture rich SPF balm like Shiseido’s Sun Protection Lip treatment. This product also works well as a base for lipstick.

For the Eyes

UV-blocking sunglasses are a must, but you can double up your eye protection with an eye shadow containing SPF. Illuminare’s line of SPF 15 liquid eye colors come in 9 decadent shades that are water resistant, won’t create ceases, and won’t fade away.

IlluminareCosmetics.com, $15.00

It is important to know that make-up products containing SPF should not be used as a substitute for proper skin protection, but when applied over a facial moisturizer or body lotion with SPF, the added protection is a terrific perk for the longevity of youthful looking skin.

For your Hair

One area of your body needing sun protection is often overlooked: your head. The sun can easily burn your scalp and can cause dry, brittle hair along with split ends, and can fade natural, treated, and colored hair. Add a flirty brimmed sun hat for added protection and use a light leave-in conditioner to protect your scalp and locks like Frederick Fekkai’s Coiff Defense UV Protectant.

Amazon.com, $25.00

For your Nails

Sandal season is in full swing. Protect your nails on feet and hands with Essie’s non-yellowing top coat that will not only deter discoloration of natural nails but will also prevent ultra violet rays from changing the original color of your nail polish.

Amazon.com, $6.99

Seek out shade whenever possible but if not, you are now equipped and ready to go enjoy the spring sun!
