Beauty Tips: How to Restore a Powder Compact

Wednesday August 29, 2012 by Alexandra C.

Lately, I've noticed that my prized powder possession, my Nars Blush, has been acting a bit off. It's sad to admit, but I fear our relationship has become toxic. It's just not the same compact I once loved. It's changed and I don't like how different it's become.

Is this story familiar to anyone else? Well, before you dump that compact like a bad boyfriend, there might be a reason for the change in it's performance and the good news is, it's easily fixable!

When you use a powder compact often and with the same brush, you'll eventually start to notice a series of raised bumps. This is yucky, oily build up. Left alone, the build up makes using a compact a chore. Your brushes won't pick up enough pigment or powder. When this starts to occur, there is an easy and inexpensive solution.

(clockwise from top left)
Revlon PhotoReady Powder (C$15.69), Nars Blush (C$32.00), e.l.f. Essential Eyelash & Brow Wand (US$1.00), Revlon Double Ended Eyebrow Brush (US$5.99), Météorites Compact Powder (C$66.00), Too Faced California in a Compact (C$36.00), Maybelline Eye Studio Color Pearls Marbleized Eyeshadow (C$9.49)

Pick up an eye brow brush or a clean mascara wand. Carefully and lightly, scrape off the top area, paying special attention to the bumps. Use a tissue to clean off excess powder and use as normal. Remember to keep cleaning those brushes too!

Do you have any tips to keep your makeup lasting as long as possible?

To funny, I just did a review for a makeup cleaning wipes before I came to this. I love these tips and will be using them instead of paying for something I don't know is even working. Thanks ladies.
