Beauty Tutorial: How to Get Sexy Beach Hair

Sunday June 27, 2010

Summer is a great time to get a little playful with your hair and create a sexy new ‘do.

Eric Del Monaco invited us to his new salon, Del Monaco Hair Studio to show us how to get tousled, sexy hair at home. This is something you can easily do yourself, or you can pop into Eric's salon and have him or one of his fashion week experts do it for you for $45, which includes a wash, blow-dry and style.

Step 1: Blow-dry and brush out your hair.

Step 2: Section your hair into halves and then quarters.

Step 3: Use a setting or finishing spray (Eric likes L’Oreal Tec finishing spray), and spray at the root of each section. Then take a wide barrel curling iron (1 1/2 inch) and start the curl at the base, working through almost to the ends, leaving the ends natural.  He explained this is a more modern twist on a typical curly look.

Eric's Tip:  Leave the shorter pieces at the front natural without curling them as they can end up sticking out. If they are left natural, they will simply blend in with the curls you’ve made.

Step 4: Once curls are finished, spray with finishing spray on the ends and work your fingers through the curls to loosen them up.

Step 5: Turn your head upside-down, pulling the curls apart and work some pomade like Kerastase nutri-sculpt into your palms. Use it to separate and crunch the curls while your head is upside-down. The pomade will bring out the texture and roughness in your hair to achieve the messy look.

Step 6: Sit up, finish with finishing spray, and your sexy new look is ready to go!

So gorgeous! My hair never seems to hold a curl. Ever. So jealous.
