DIY Alcoholic Milkshake: Rum and Hazelnut Milkshake Recipe

Posted by Alexandra C. | Wednesday October 19, 20117 comments

I've always said, there needs to be more ways to combine chocolate and rum! And now- I have found one and let me tell you, it is delicious! I first came across the 'alcoholic milkshake' at a restaurant here in Toronto. I was inspired by it and decided to concoct my own recipe. I'm loving this rum and hazelnut combo as a sort of after dinner drink/dessert hybrid. The perfect milkshake for entertaining during the fall season!

What you'll need to make this delicious (and alcoholic!) milkshake:

- 3/4 cup of Milk

- 1 1/2 cup of Hazelnut Gelato (or similar flavour)
- 1 tbsp Chocolate Syrup
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Splash of Almond Extract
- 1/2 shot of Rum (or to taste)
- Blender
- Whipped Cream (Optional)

This is a simple recipe and being a milkshake, basically all you have to do is get all the ingredients in the blender somehow and mix!
First, I poured in milk, followed by the scoops of gelato, then the syrup.

Next, add in the vanilla and splash of almond extract and the half shot of rum. You can definitely play with the proportions as well; I found that for my personal tastes, the 1/2 shot was even a bit too much for me, however if you're not a lightweight (like myself), then feel free to add in a full shot!

Blend for approximately 30-40 seconds make sure that the mixture is frothy. Pour the milkshake into a tall glass and if you would like to, add a bit of whipped cream and drizzle some chocolate syrup over top!

Et voila- your finished and very yummy drink!

Tip! I happened to have hazelnut gelato and rum in my house but if you had say, vanilla ice cream, amaretto and rum, I think this would be a delicious combination too!

If you have a favourite flavour combination, let us know in the comment section! And as always, we hope that you drink your milkshake responsibly!

@curlysue10 That would definitely taste delicious- I'm usually quite plain and basic in my alcohol choices so I was a bit limited in my choices but with all these yummy recipes, I am definitely going to try out some new flavours!

Oh this sounds AH-mazing!! I'm loving these DIY drink recipes ladies. You could also try frangelico (hazelnut liqueur, a personal favourite) instead of rum.
