Fall Beauty Trend: Back to the '50s

Posted by Hafsa | Monday November 22, 20106 comments

The '50s makeup trend, reminiscent of beauty icons Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor, is back and red-hot this season.  Bold red lips and glossy waves epitomize this glamourous look we love:

Beyonce, Dita von Teese, Blake Lively

Gwen Stefani, Scarlett Johansson, Nicole Kidman

Hair is all about perfect blow dries, tumbling waves and pushed back ponytails.  Lips are dark, red and luscious, while eyes are lined in black, winged out and layered with oodles of mascara.

Try these products to get you started on your 1950s makeover:
(1) Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lip Color in ‘Are You Red-dy’
(2) Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick in 'Gabrielle'
(3) Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Ravish Me Red’
(4) Julie Hewett Noir Red Lipstick in 'Coco Noir'
(5) Dior DiorShow Mascara in 'Black'
(6) Lancome Hypnose Mascara in 'Excessive Black'
(7) Rimmel London Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 'Dark Brown'
(8) TRESemme Tres Two Extra Hold Hairspray
(9) Yves Saint Laurent Liquid Eyeliner Noir
(10) Lise Watier Feline Eyeliner HD

I think this look suits some more than others. For example, I couldn't even recognize Beyonce .. what's up with them thick eyebrows!? It suits some but the thick dark eyebrows doesn't go with her light-ish coloured hair, couple that with the thick eye liner and red lipstick.. i don't think i'm loving it :( she is a gooooooooooorgeous girl and she could have done better with the same look....

Gewn Stefani is another one, the thick geyeliner is (imo) bringing out the small wrinkles around the eye, and that particular bright shade of lipstick is making the rest of her face look washed out.

Now I think Blake Lively, Scarlet Johanson and Nicole Kidman pulled off the look!! They kept to the same rules of the 50s but used eyeliner and lipstick shades that are more complimentary to their face / colouring ..

and i just laughed out loud reading my own breakdown of what is hot / not :-P as if i'm an expert ... just my two cents ladies :)

I absolutely love this look! It's so chic and classy. I really like it on Beyonce and Blake... they look so put together and sophisticated :)

It's funny because I only recently started wearing bold lipcolor... I only owned 1 stick of lipstick 3 months ago, and now i'm up to 4! But I get a little self-conscious sometimes when I see that not many people, especially my age, wear heavy lipcolor... Still love the look though!
