Fall Lipstick Trends: 5 Hot Hues to Try

Posted by ChickAdvisor Team | Friday September 21, 201210 comments

Lips are garnering some major attention this fall, and with good reason. As we've said before, a swipe of a bold colour can totally take a bare face to a whole new level and a simple change in lip colour with a basic look gives a whole new feel to your face. With all that a lip colour can achieve, it's official: you definitely need to play them up!

When choosing your colour this season, we suggest getting dark and broody. We're talking lipsticks of course! Rich autumn colours, goth meets romance, and edgy holiday reds are all trending looks right now. We put together 5 hot hues for you to play around with and a few different ways that you can wear them.

#1 Pinks

According to Pantone's Fall 2012 colour report, a bubblegum-esque pink called Pink Flambe is the next big thing. Recreate it in lip wear and go sassy a la Jil Sander with a bright orangey pink, or opt for soft and sweet with a muted tone as seen at Alexander Wang, Dior and Stella McCartney.

#2 Honey Nudes

Another Pantone pick for fall is Rose Smoke, a dusty colour between pink and tan. Also, a barely there lip (like Anna Sui gave us) goes great with some dramatic eyes. You could try a tawny autumn tone from Armani or Chloe which gives a bit more colour and definition.

#3 Brash Reds

For a more classic take with a red lip, try crimson red as seen at Marc Jacobs, Victoria Beckham or Michael Kors. For those of you looking for an edgier feel, put on a deep oxblood like Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent illustrated.

#4 Punchy Purples

One of the most buzzed about looks is Bottega Veneta's dark plum lip. It isn't for everyone but with a fresh face and minimal eye makeup, it comes together for an effortlessly chic look. Black lip balms were also on the runway courtesy of Emilio Pucci, this will still give you the dark lip but it's not as drastic and makes for a practical and more wearable option.

#5 Orange

We've raved about Pantone's colour of the year- Tangerine Tango. On the runway Narcisco Rodriguez gave us a juicy tangerine lip colour, but If you don't want to go that bold, do a hint of orange like Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs.

Which one of these lip colours is your fave and which will you try this fall?

Personally, I love the soft pinks (on myself), but on others - I love when they rock the reds!

I am dying to try out black balms and plums... I am somewhat nervous about it though. Give me a few more weeks and I'll be ready ;)

I'm not too much of a lipstick person but I would wear the Soft tones. Sassy doesn't look to bad either, very feminine.

I love the pinks. Still looks natural enough, but very feminine too. I really like the one in the pic that says Sassy. I've been trying to find a nice shade like that for a while.

So many wonderful looks, but I like more subtle and natural looks.

I am glad that nude lips are coming back into style. That means I can still be 'fashionable' when I only put on chapstick like I usually do!

I love the Sassy Pink one the best......I received a orange colored lipstick like the juicy picture it sure looks good on that girl but does not look good on me at all!

I like just about every one of these. I can't wear the orange colors
though, they just look silly on me. I think the color's that look best
on people has a lot to do with the shape of their face and color of your
hair and skin tone. You just have to find a few that are right for you
and then rock it.
