Flawless Fall Beauty

Most women know that they might need to use a more nourishing moisturizer during the winter months, but few take into consideration the shift between the humid summer weather and cooler Autumn months.

Seasonal changes can affect your skin, hair and nails, and it’s important to use the appropriate products and do the necessary treatments to ensure your flawless summer look transitions gracefully into fall.

Those of us with sensitive skin feel the weather shifts earlier, with drier skin and cuticles. Since there's nothing you can do to change Mother Nature, simple changes to your skincare regime can make all the difference.

Seasonal shift realities:

* Your skin will feel drier and tighter

* Your makeup does not go on as smoothly

* Your skin's summery hue fades

* Your hair betrays the summer sun's damage more obviously as the humidity drops

* You might lose more hair than usual (this is fairly common)

* Your nails might start to split and may not grow as quickly as they did during the summer

* Drier skin feels more itchy as the day wears on

Seasonal shift remedies:

1. Start with staying well hydrated and limit your caffeine intake. Diuretics purge water from your system, which can lead to a poor complexion. Be wary of quick-fix diet pills, as the miracle pounds you'll shed is water weight!

2.  Use a more nourishing moisturizer. If you have combination or oily skin and are worried about breakouts caused by heavier creams, you can try Aloe Vera or a repairing serum on your face before applying your moisturizer to increase the hydration power of your usual product.

3. Make sure you always wear primer - it will act as a barrier and help when applying your makeup.

4. Self tanners take that summer glow from one season to another while protecting your skin from the damaging effects of the sun

5. Pamper your hair with weekly treatments. Sun exposure and pool chemicals wreak havoc on your tresses, and you should start repairing your hair before the harsher winter settles in.

6. Pay extra attention to hands, cuticles, nails, and rough skin patches (such as elbows, knees, and heels). Use a thick moisturizer overnight to maximize relief and softening.

7. Adding a bit of oil (almond, avocado or jojoba) to your favourite body moisturizer boosts its effectiveness. Be careful to start with an unscented lotion if the oil you choose has a strong aroma.

8. Jump at the excuse to pamper yourself a little more during these drier months! Your skin (and stress levels) will thank you.

Don't forget to use sunscreen even though the rays may no longer be shining
