New York Fashion Week Indie Party Fashion Pics
Last week New York City was buzzing with designers, celebrities and media from all over the world. Fashion Week was at hand and this year, it was brought to you by 50 year old Barbie. I wasn't going to attend because of the preparations for our Movie Night on Thursday, but then on a whim and a compelling invitation from a friend, hopped a last minute flight to check out some of the early festivities and do a little research. While I missed the opportunity to be condescended to by Miss J in the white tents, I did manage to check out some indie parties and snap a few pics. When it come to fashion in New York, one thing is certain: anything goes! We met up with Fashion Indie's Rebecca Alexander-Saynt and her husband (and business partner), Daniel for dinner and an indie fashion show. Though we couldn't get past the bar due to the illogical decision to make room for only 12 seats to a show where several hundred were invited, there was plenty of fashion to be seen in the bar. Rebecca (pictured) is wearing a dress made for her wedding by an independent designer, who shortened it for the occasion. ![]() Alex immediately caught my attention with his fur jacket, ribbed leather pants and his purple 'murse'. Though the outfit was almost entirely black, there are a lot of different textures going on that made it quite interesting. ![]() Designers, Claire (L) of Rubytone and Phylia were dressed to impress with a colourful mixture of frills, bows, bling and tatoos. Tell me you don't want that yellow hair piece! ![]() Jackie is wearing a delighfully wacky hat that would be perfect for the Mad Hatter tea party or, well, New York! ![]() Jonathan and Boujean looked like a pilot and flight attendent on their way to Paris. I do so love a good trench coat! ![]() It's not just the parties where people dress up. I saw so many brilliant outfits on the street but with the cold February weather I preferred to spend my time in cozy cafes and wandering into Soho boutiques, so I let them continue on their way without interruption. In summer they wouldn't be so lucky! Aside from being fashionable, New Yorkers are so friendly. I can understand why so many people want to live there. For more of my experiences in New York, watch for my reviews. And if YOU are a New Yorker reading this now, please stop what you are doing and please add some of your own reviews. I am but a tourist with a camera. You know the inside scoop so please share! By: Ali de Bold
