Wedding Ideas: 1920s Vintage Inspired Gowns, Cocktails, Accessories, Venues, Makeup, and More

Weddings are romantic and tender occasions and what better way to achieve that feeling than to take your guests back to a nostalgic, bygone era? We have eight simple elements to celebrate your unforgettable 1920s-inspired picturesque wedding!

What to Wear

(1) For Her - Bride and Bridesmaids Dresses

Think flapper inspired, long and lean lines for your 1920s wedding dress. The silhouette is boxier and more boyish that what we are used to and often has a dropped waistline. This cut doesn't work for every body type so pick and choose vintage elements to accent modern silhouettes. Let your bridesmaids in on the fun with vintage-inspired styles for them too- guaranteed they'll wear those dresses again!

(2) For Him - The Dapper Groom

Make sure the groom looks dapper with fedoras, vests and pinstripes. I love the idea of giving the groom a unique boutonnière. Feathers were popular in the '20s and a peacock feather lends flamboyant glamour to a neutral suit. Accessorize with a coloured handkerchief, heirloom pocket watch or suspenders.

(3) Headpieces & Accessories

An eye-catching hair accessory or head piece is a quintessential part of the 1920s style. Fascinators have enjoyed a huge boost in popularity of late- try one to match or modernize your '20s wedding. To keep it authentic, wear a mini mesh veil, feathers or rhinestones or a beaded headband.

Romantic vintage accessories like gloves for the bride or bridesmaids, beaded clutches or purses or even a fur stole for a cool evening are perfect ways to bring 1920s glamour to a wedding.

(4) Make Up and Hair

Cat-eye make up and luscious red lips are key pieces to a 1920s look. This look is universally flattering as well, so if the flapper style dress isn't for you, inject some 1920s charisma with your make up. Try finger wave curls and a deep side part in your hair to complete your vintage make over.

(5) Cocktails and Drinks

Your drink selection is the perfect way to create the air of abundance and fun that recalls the '20s! We like an old fashioned champagne punch for a 1920s vintage wedding. Not only is it delicious but it looks elegant and adorable in champagne flutes garnished with a little fruit. Another great idea is to have a signature retro cocktail for the night! Try a 'Sidecar' or 'Singapore Sling' cocktail- click here for these recipes and more!

(6) Décor

One décor idea I absolutely love is hanging old black and white photographs from family weddings and events at your recpetion. Not only does it personalize your day by having meaningful photos of loved ones present but it will add a real feeling genuine vintage to your wedding.

The art deco movement was big in the 1920s.  Pair it with feathers as extravagant centrepieces, or look for vintage cake toppers like these gems we found on Etsy

(7) Music and Transportation

It's all in the details! Ride off in a 1920s vintage car or set the mood with a big band live jazz singer at your wedding.

(8) Venue

For a more traditional approach, an inn or more rustic, historical manor or mansion are charming options. If you want more of a fun, party atmosphere, why not try a bar or lounge venue? The Roaring '20s were all about dancing, drinking and having a good time- sounds like the perfect wedding atmosphere, no?

I adore this article! I love everything about it. The headpiece fascinators are to die for. They are soo beautiful. I also love the Dapper Groom, such fabulous style. The peacock feather boutonniere is also super awesome. That would come into play well with a matching colour theme, too. Beautiful!

Awww so lovely! I don't know if I would go all out 1920s like she did, but I definitely love the accessories she chose and all those small little details.
