What She Wore: To Work

Posted by Alexandra C. | Wednesday August 31, 20118 comments

Deciding what to wear to work in the morning is easy for me. I basically just throw on whatever is clean. But seriously, I do have a system or an idea usually. I try and stick to an office casual look for ChickAdvisor and mix more formal pieces with cute additions that show my personality. This outfit was one that a wore at the beginning of this week. I love all these pieces because they are so versatile and I can break up the outfit to create a ton of other outfits to suit the occasion.

I love Marilyn Monroe and this graphic tee is the perfect way to inject some fun into a work outfit. I bought this shirt last summer on sale from Zara. My skirt is a high waisted, A-line, flared skirt which is very flattering on my hips, accentuates my waist and balances out my top half. My skirt is from H&M last year- sorry I'm thrifty! I'm also in love with the fact that this skirt has pockets- makes for an excellent place to hold my phone and some snacks for later on!

Because the mornings and the air conditioned building can be chilly, I threw on an oversized, houndstooth blazer. The blazer is thrifted so I know no one else has it and I love the houndstooth print. Even though blazers are more formal, this oversized one is more stylish and funky. Of course, down at the bottom are my signature cowboy boots. I wear these babies all the time because they are super comfortable but give me a bit of height which I need at only 5'5''!

Want to try something similar? Because these pieces are older, I couldn't find the exact items but all you'd need are a flared, A-Line skirt, graphic tee and oversized blazer!
Forever 21 Essential Woven Blazer (C$33.80)
Gap Front Pleat Skirt (C$54.95)
Forever 21 Native Print Top (C$17.80)

I like the skirt, but paired with everything all together, it just looks way too casual and baggy to me.

I love your skirt!! So you keep track of when you buy something which is very cool. Reading your article, I realized I have some tops that I've kept since highschool days! Does that make me vintage too? :-D

The houndstooth blazer is an awesome addition. I would never think of that! I am also a fan of high waitsted skirts (especially with pockets!)
