So I've been dyeing my hair bright colors (pinks, reds, purples, blues) for the past 8 years. It was something I always wanted to do and loved doing it. Lately I've been feeling like it's more of a chore and a safety blanket more than anything else. I still like it but I want a change.
I've been thinking about dyeing it black again, I love the way it looks and I've had it before.
I'm not jumping into it because I don't want to do it only to regret it in a week.
I'm scared of the change and I'm worried I'll just look boring and not stand out anymore but I'm tired of hiding behind my hair and want to be know for more than a hair color.
I don't know what to do! Help!

It sounds like you are at a point in your life where you don't want your hair colour to be the first thing that enters the room. Now is the perfect time to change it! What about trying a "natural" colour that goes well with your skin tone? For a big change like this you should see a professional who can really nail down the right shade for you. Some stylists say a good starting point is the hair colour you had as a kid.
Black can be gorgeous but you have to wear makeup all the time if you have pale skin and if it is not close to your natural colour it is hard to undo and a lot of upkeep.
Let us know what you decide!

What about starting to ween yourself off the bright colours? Like instead of dying your entire head a colour, maybe just tips or ombred? It might be a good way to slowly transition and not feel like you are losing anything.
As for black, I dyed my hair black for a few years and it can look really striking if you are paler but it is hard to go back to any other colour. You might want to take this chance to play up another feature, besides your hair colour. Maybe go for an interesting cut instead? Or maybe try going bold with your makeup?

Maybe you could use the brighter colours in your make up, or clothing? I absolutely love girls who have black (or dark brown) hair. I find they can really pull of bold colour statements!
