Ladies I need your suggestions!
I've recently decided to start embracing my naturally curly hair but my tresses need some taming before they go out in public. My question is...what's good? What do you use? I remember using gel in my high school days to achieve a very crunchy, hard look, luckily I've grown up since then and no longer think it's attractive.
I want something that will help them hold their shape without making them crunchy or falling flat.

Hey Miss K!
I have curly hair too, but now that its a bit longer is tends to be more wavy than curly. Nevertheless, I SWEAR by John Frieda products, such as Frizz Ease Serum but have also found that their dream curls line is great. I am currently using John Frieda Dream Curl Perfecter Spray.
I also use Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Defining Lotion religiously.
Last but not least, I have recently tried Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mousse (it was a ridiculously cheap $2.97 at Wal-Mart so I decided to give it a try). I am liking it so far. I have yet to review this mousse, but I have reviewed the other two products if you want to check them out.
Fekkai on Apr 21, 2010 @ 02:27 pm
I use Frederic Fekkai glossing cream in my hair after every shower and it's amazing! I will use it when I straighten it or when I leave it naturally curly. It really smooths down frizz (which I have MORE than my share of) and makes my hair look shiny and healthy.
You only need to use a little bit and avoid putting it your roots or you risk looking oily. It's a little pricy at $32 but trust me, it will last about a year (and even longer if you have shorter hair).
Although I really love Fekkai, I'm interested to hear what more people recommend too. Curly hair is a constant battle!!

I have natural wave--it would curl if I wore my hair longer--and am a fan of Catwalk's Curls Rock Curl Amplifier. You need to emulsify it or it kind of goops when you put it in your hair, but it keeps the frizz down and your hair soft and manageable.

I love the entire line from there.
a good cut is everything on May 31, 2010 @ 11:38 am
I am a firm believer that a good haircut is everything when it comes to curly hair. Because curls are so finicky (mine look different every morning!) you need a good foundation before you start thinking about products.
What works for my thick and wavy/curly hair is lots of long layers and thinning.
I have tried a ton of hair products for my curly hair on May 31, 2010 @ 12:03 pm
I have had really curly hair my whole life, I find my favorite hair products are: TIGI Curls Rock shampoo and conditioner, Aveeno conditioning leave in treatment. I use the aveeno in damp hair and I comb it through really well, then I use Got2b Smooth Operator Lustre Lotion and then I use Garnier Fructis Curl Shaping Gel Spray and then blow dry my hair a little bit with my diffuser and leave it a little damp and let air dry without touching your hair with you hands. I find this works great. And if you have some frizz even after all that I use Got2b Smooth Operator Satin Drops just a drop or two I use on my frizzy ends and that's how I do my curly hair.
One other thing that helps curly hair to stay moisturized is wash your hair 2 or 3 times a week only it keeps the oils in your hair and helps prevent drying out.

It smells amazing like Skittles! It also leaves my hair soft and frizz free. I have really curly hair and I use their shampoo, conditioner and curl cream to keep it looking good and healthy. It's on the pricey side and I don't like that you have to get the shampoo and conditioner bundled since I always use more conditioner than shampoo.

Moroccanoil on curly hair??? I've heard such rave reviews about the entire line and they have an intense curl cream I'd be interested in..
Moroccanoil on Jun 08, 2010 @ 05:24 pm
I really like the Moroccanoil intense curl cream! I didn't like the oil treatment very much. The curl cream is really moisturizing and keeps your hair from getting frizzy. If you apply too much it gives it a greasy feel and really weighed my hair down though.
