Do you DIY?

In the past, I've cut my own hair (did that for about 2 years), done my own waxing (all zones - yow), given myself full service pedis and manis, and of course coloured my own hair.

Do you guys DIY your beauty needs?  Or are there certain things you always get done professionally and wouldn't consider trying at home?

Not at all... on Jul 28, 2010 @ 12:23 pm

I don't trust myself, so I get everything done by professionals. Haircuts, waxing, mani/pedis, and hair colouring.

I would love to give myself mani/pedis as it would be nice to stay in the comfort of my home, but I don't have a steady hand.

And waxing I tried to do at home, but I find it takes me much longer than the women at the salon. Andd I have to psychologically prep before ripping the wax strip each time. Its easier when its a professional and you have no control as to when she rips each strip.

Yes I do!

I love DIY-ing, it gives me a chance to learn and try new things out on my own.

I personally trim my own bangs, I used to cut my entire hair, but got lazy with it. I also do my own manis/pedis, tweeze my brows, wax (haha), and of course do my own make-up for special occasions!

yes for the most part:) on Aug 01, 2010 @ 02:02 am

I love to do my own pedi's, it started out of fear of fungal infections lol, but now I am really good at it. My hands aren't steady enough to paint my fingers, so I just clean em up trim cuticles and nails, plus I am a baker so anytime I did go and get a manicure it never lasted long and I felt like I just wasted my money. I know alot of women on here hate to shave, but I love it! I shave my bikini area completely, I shave my legs and my underarms, I do it everyday and I love it! I do not do my own hair though, I leave that up to the professionals, the woman who does my hair is fantastic and I know I could never make my hair look the way she makes it look, it almost scares me to think what my hair would look like if I tried to hi-lite it myself :) I also occasionally have my stylist wax my eyebrows, because I am too much of a wuss to do it myself:) I love doing my own make-up but would love to learn how to be better at it, like eye makeup I tend to stay away from because I just can never get it to look right it always looks like a child did it :)

I've tried dying my own hair once and it was a disaster so I'd never touch my hair again myself!

But I do my own nails and give myself facials all the time!

For some things, sure! on Aug 04, 2010 @ 03:58 pm

I like to do my own manicures/pedicures when I'm not feeling lazy. Took me years of practice to be able to do it with a steady hand, but now it saves me loads of money doing it myself instead of going to the salon! I can take care of the waxing myself, but would prefer to go to the salon for any hair cutting. I shudder to think of the mess I would make trying to cut my own hair! They do a much better job at hair cutting than I will ever do.

None of the above on Aug 04, 2010 @ 04:27 pm

I have given up on the illusion I am good at doing these things. I can certainly make myself look presentable but for anything important I go to the professionals.

All of the Above on Aug 05, 2010 @ 12:11 pm

I don't know why but I'm actually too intimidated to go to the professionals, I do everything at home myself except cut my own hair. I get my mom to trim that for me sometimes- she does an excellent job too! I often let my hair grow to my waist so I only get it trimmed every 6 months to a year or longer. I've never had my hair dyed professionally, I've always dyed it at home and I've been doing it for over 24 years. Can you image what I have saved on haircuts and dye jobs alone all these years? It's been so long since I've seen my natural colour, I can't quite recall what it is anymore. People always assume that my black hair is my natural colour so I guess it suits me alright. Shockingly, I get alot of compliments on my hair even though I spend so little time and money doing anything to it. Just wash, condition, air dry and go! And comb it once in a while when I remember. :-)

love the DIY... on Sep 08, 2010 @ 05:53 pm

I agree about being intimidated by salons sometimes, plus they are so expensive!
I colour my own hair with dark henna, and trim my own hair (although I go to the salon for a good cut a few times a year).
I also wax everything myself pretty often, but if I could afford it I would totally go and get it done somewhere. It's over way quicker that way!

As for mani pedis, that is all me. It just takes a bit of practice! Since it's free, I change my polish colour a few times a week.

everything but hair on Sep 16, 2010 @ 11:48 am

I do everything myself but hair. I don't trust myself to cut what I can't see. I move a lot and until I find a hair dresser that I trust I usually go through a few bad hair cuts. My eyebrows which I do myself I always get complements on, and do them for a friend in return for her to do my make up for special occasions. But if you have the time, supplies or a friend to share there specialty, why not save some money and spend it on something else?

I cut my bangs sometimes. I never actually cut my hair because I have wavy hair.
I do my eyebrows. I color my hair but I prefer going to the salon for highlights and stuff like that.
I don't do pedi because i always messed it up. I do my own mani (well i only put nailpolish nothing fancy lol)
