I love Ellen's quirky real-ness, and I think she'll resonate with a lot of people. Actors and athletes have been crossing over to fashion and beauty since forever, so I don't see why a comedian can't. She's certainly pretty enough while still being unique.

I wonder if Portia is jealous!? ;-)
To me Ellen is pretty. She's not glam, but she's wholesome pretty. Portia on the other hand, is glam pretty.

I think its great. I wonder how that will affect sales. I think in theory women would prefer to see someone "real" they can identify with but in reality they'd like to look at someone beyond them that they can aspire to. Talking strictly physical here. I'd like to see that change.
Ellen's announcement about the campaign is hilarious:

I think it's awesome. Beauty icon? No. But I think women will really respond to her as a Cover Girl.
This reminds me of something I read today that hopefully I can keep in mind on days when I'm feeling blah. It was in a book written for women about conquering fear (I can't remember the name right now), and they were talking about what beauty means. They pointed out that, especially as you get older, beauty is more about self-confidence than physical looks. They pointed to Carrie on Sex and the City and Queen Latifah (another Cover Girl - yay!) as examples of women who aren't typical beauties, but their personalities and confidence make them amazingly beautiful. I certainly find both of these women more attractive than, say Cindy Crawford.

I totally agree it's all about confidence.

I'd have to see the spreads, I guess, before deciding whether I buy Ellen as a Cover Girl. To me, the "wholesome pretty" that Spotty pointed out -- and Ellen totally has it -- is the kind that doesn't rely on makeup, while the "glam pretty" often does. So to see Ellen smiling the dreamy-eyed yet smirky Cover Girl smile . . . especially after watching a video of her leaking the news on her show . . . like I said, I'd have to see it.

I absolutely adore Ellen and was so glad to see that she was the new face of Covergirl. I think she will be great at it(and put a different spin on things) and I also loved her announcement as well,it was hilarious!
