Keep your skin tone in mind when picking a highlight/lowlight. (Cool/warm)
With AUTUMN here I really love mahogany shades. The rich reddish hues on dark hair looks amazing IMO. You can also do a warmer caramel shade if you like more golden hues. Personally I would stray away from ash tones.
As for a product, do you have a Sally's Beauty Supply near you? I would talk with someone about your hair type and any texture concerns. One product may work well on one hair type better than other.

Light brown, golden in tone would be great. A deep, rich dark red would be great. Coppery colour would be nice too.

On a note make sure you don't just do the top layer- do underneath too- it's worth the money

I always love the dark colour with the red/mahogany undertones to it! Such a great colour for fall. If only my hair was dark enough...hmmmmm
