Surgery should be the very last resort not the first. I know a lot of people don't enjoy exercise but that is the only healthy solution. What you are considering is very hard on your body and there are serious risks involved. Not to mention huge expenses and painful recovery. Being physically active is free and if you make it part of your lifestyle you will be healthier and happier over all.

Not the right first step!! on Feb 01, 2012 @ 09:30 am

This isn't something that should ever be done first. My brother in-law
will be having the skin removed from the middle of his body, but that
won't happen until he loses another 200lbs. He's lost 100lb in four
months after he had surgery on his stomach to help him lose the weight.
How ever that also wasn't done until after he had tried many other
things over the year's and he was starting to have a hard time walking.
There are many different diets and exercise programs out there that can
be done at any time of day, so you working the hours you are shouldn't
matter. You just have to find something that you enjoy and start eating
better. You'll be so much happier you do. To tell you the truth I don't
think any Dr would give you the surgery until you lost some weight on
your own. My brother in-law had to lose 80 pounds on his own before his
surgeon would even touch him. Good luck and be careful with what every
you do and remember we only get one body, so treat it well.

No! on Feb 01, 2012 @ 09:51 am

I am biased -- I hate surgery and I hate hospitals. Please consider exercise/healthy eating before consulting a surgeon! Do a lot of research either way. Find your own routine. If you absolutely feel you must have surgery, make sure you know what to expect and the consequences going in.

surgery? on Feb 01, 2012 @ 12:54 pm

I don't want to lie and say I've never considered it, but in the end, if I did surgery to get in shape I'd forever feel a loser and a quitter for doing so. I'm struggling everyday, if I lose 5lbs, I gain back 3lbs, and that's how it goes. I have lost huge amounts of weight in the past (don't even ask how I gained some back!) and it always left me with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment, that I was able to do it by myself without any pill popping or cutting involved.

I, first hand, understand how hard it is to lose weight, but I would still recommend exercising and healthy eating over surgery any day.

Not only are you vulnerable to tons of life altering complications after surgery, but to not gain the weight back you need to exercise and eat healthy. Surprisingly enough, the same thing you need to do to lose weight in the first place. If you don't do that, you won't keep the weight off and will end up wasting all that money over surgery.

Moral of the ramblings? Do now, for free, what you'll have to do anyways after spending a ton of money: Eat healthy and Exercise daily.
