Is Seche Vite dangerous?

on Mar 14, 2012 @ 08:25 pm

I recently purchased the highly recommended and often raved about Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.  I do my nails regularly so I'm always looking for high quality base and top coats.  A friend had been telling me to buy this for ages.  In terms of quality it is definitely worth it.  However there is a scary warning on the side of the box that says the product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defect and other reproductive harm.

Ugh, WHAT?  I mean, I'm assuming that unless you drink the stuff you should be fine, but what are your thoughts on this?  Should we avoid this cult fave product?

I would beware on Mar 14, 2012 @ 09:37 pm

Knowing how paranoid I am I would stay away from it. I remember a long time ago I bought myself a foot spa and it said the same thing about the rubber that covered the cord and I immediately boxed it back up washed my hands and returned it. Call it paranoid or over dramatic but I'm not gambling. I know no matter how hard we try we can't prevent ourselves from everything, just if there's a specific warning I'm going to listen to it.

DBP on Mar 14, 2012 @ 09:38 pm

I hadn't ever heard of this before- that's crazy! After I read this I did some googling and I think the chemical they are referring to is DBP-

According to wikipedia (i.e. the holder of knowledge) most nail polishes starting phasing it out in 2006 so the fact that Seche Vite still has it isn't the best, I think the main point is to not ingest it. I read on wikipedia as well that its banned from kids toys, which would make sense because most kids put toys in their mouths.

Hopefully they will come out with a DBP free seche vite version! I know of a lot of companies with non DBP polishes out (ie Butter London!)

That's scary! on Mar 16, 2012 @ 11:22 am

It must soak into your system over time. Some people have very thin
nail's and probably should stay away from this. I don't understand why
so many companys put crap like this in things they know we all use. It's

I wouldn't wear it.... on Mar 16, 2012 @ 01:47 pm

........if it has a warning it's pretty self explanatory to use at your own risk.

You tube on Mar 16, 2012 @ 02:08 pm

There are a few you tube videos about this...I seen in one that apparently from this same company they have another nail product that has a warning on the label that it can cause cancer!

I've stayed away from it.. I mean don't get me wrong I love polishes and they say yes overtime it's not great for you because of the chemicals but I try to use the better polishes on the market, especially ones without DBP

You don't have to ingest something in order for your body to absorb it. That's why when you are pregnant you aren't supposed to wear nail polishes or even dye your hair.
