massage oil vs moisterizer

I've been using the Gaia Baby Massage Oil on my baby on and off. I noticed how nice my hands are after the massage. So I started using it on my arms and legs the past few days and I love it. It doesn't leave a greasy residue and it smells very nice.

But I am wondering if massage oils are effective as a skin moisterizer. What is the difference between a lotion and the oil? Does anyone know?
