I've been trying some matte nail polishes and I'm on the fence about whether I like them or not. I have one friend that always requests matte polishes when she gets a mani/pedi. I'm trying some from Zoya - the colours are cool but I'm not used to the finish. I usually have dry cracked hands/fingers and I feel like it accentuates that. Also, you can't use a base/top coat so it doesn't last as long. However, I heard from Mandy that either OPI or Essie has a topcoat for matte polishes. Will have to try that.

Have you tried matte polishes? What do you think?

OPI, Essie etc on Aug 27, 2009 @ 10:30 am
OPI has a new line of matte nail polishes. If you want to 'matte-ti'fy' your current nail polish, OPI has a top coat called Nail Envy Matte Top Coat and Essie has one called 'matte about you'.

I really like the finish, it's different. you can play around with the contrast of the texture. Matte base, shiny tip etc. I also love the fact that these nail poish dries in a matter of seconds...and i'm not exaggerating. They are a bit tricky to put on but you get used to it. I think it's a good alternative to regular shiny polish, esp for fall.

Going to try OPI next... on Aug 27, 2009 @ 10:45 am
I have a couple of OPI colours that I'm going to test in navy and a grey-brown. I do agree - I love that they dry fast and the matte effect is a nice alternative for Fall. I put on 3 coats of the Zoya one and find it's actually staying on longer that I thought it would similar to a normal polish with top coat. I've got to get that OPI matte topcoat!

something you'd have to get used to on Aug 28, 2009 @ 11:25 am
I just bought a funky lime green color from opi in a matte finish. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. I mean, it's super matte...looks like green whiteout when dry. I DO like it, but just need to work on my technique for applying it. So far, it's been a bit streaky, I think due to the fact that it dries so quickly. But I'm going to keep working with it, love the color!!

ever since I read this thread... on Aug 29, 2009 @ 11:06 am
I've been so interested in trying this. I've never even heard of this until a couple days ago. I had to google image search and the grey and black colours just looked so neat. Next time I am in a salon I will keep my eyes open. I might even find something today!
