According to an article written on MNN.com, the secret to beautiful, healthy tresses is ditching the shampoo. Would you be able to go months or even years without shampooing at all? Take a look at this article, of a girls experience with ditching the suds.

I'm always afraid to try things like this, but I have heard that not using shampoo is actually better for your hair.
Maybe I'll try this out, but I'll have to read the article a couple of times and maybe get a few more first-hand reviews
once in a while... on Jan 19, 2011 @ 01:44 pm
I think I would be able to do it, but I would need to wash my hair once in a while... but the article makes sense to me. As I have limited my hairwashing in the past couple of months, I've noticed a huge improvement in the look and feel of my hair!
oh, I'm tempted but... on Jan 19, 2011 @ 02:10 pm
I fit the profile - I have natural wave and have long advocated washing hair less to maintain health and my paid-for colour (I wash max 2x per week).
But. Yep, what more can I say?
So I'm wildly curious if any of you have tried this! What I read in that article is still not quite enough to convince me.
There's an idea! on Jan 19, 2011 @ 02:22 pm
Maybe I could start by cutting it down to 3 times a week. Mumaluv you're right, it would help to keep my colour longer
it's true on Jan 19, 2011 @ 02:39 pm
It's a good idea for women with curly/wavy/dry hair to avoid shampoo since it strips the natural oils. I skip it on occasion but I practice a lot of hot yoga and I swim often so it's kind of gross to skip the shampoo when your hair is all sweaty/chlorine-y.
But I do have a friend (who has gorgeous ringlet curls) and she hasn't shampooed her hair in years. She finds that it keeps her hair healthier and less dry.

this is really interesting....
i've definitely heard it said many times that shampooing strips the natural oils from your hair, and the most you should do it is every other day. but never ever?! that seems kinda crazy for someone who shampoos/conditions every day, but it also makes ALOT of sense that cutting out all of those chemicals would be good for your hair.
don't think i'll be going extreme any time soon and cutting out shampoo altogether, but i will make the effort to cut down on shampooing every day to see what happens!
What about styling products? on Jan 20, 2011 @ 09:17 pm
I have wavy/curly hair that is also super fine. I wash and condition every day and also use styling products to control the frizz and keep the curl in so it doesn't just lie limply. I'd like to wash less but is it any better to leave styling products in your hair for days on end? For those of you who don't wash every day, do you still use styling products? And if you ditch the shampoo permanently, is the idea that you won't have to use any styling products ever again? The article didn't really address styling products.
I've been thinking about trying shampoo that doesn't have so many yucky, harsh chemicals. That seems like a less scary and more hygienic step than not washing at all.

Next they will say not washing with-OUT soap on our bodies will prevent dry skin. How many of you girls would be down to test that theory out? haha ;)

@cowgirl: I don't shampoo everyday but I always use styling products - usually that means glossing creams and anti-frizz serums. Sometimes I use gel when my waves need to be tamed. Everything I put in my hair is for the purpose of adding moisture so it looks smooth and frizz-free. It would be a dream if you could simply cut out the shampoo and say sayonara to styling products forever, but unfortunately it's not that good.
Even if you don't shampoo every day, you can still condition daily. It won't leave your hair feeling like there is still product in it when you come out of the shower, I promise (I do it all the time!)

@cathy3087--thanks. I use a styling cream and mousse. The styling cream is probably okay to not wash out but I'm not sure about the mousse. I am going to have to try testing this not washing every day on the weekend. That way I can at least run and wash my hair if it feels too gross.
