Secrets To Longer Nails?

I've been a chronic nail biter all my life - well up until 2 years ago. I finally decided I wanted to have long nails, so I stopped biting and picking at them.

Unfortunately, the dry weather and a little stress have caused my nails to split and become pretty brittle over the past 2 weeks. Even though I have been moisturizing like crazy and keeping them painted (at least with a clear coat) they seem to be in the worst shape!

There must be something I can do to bring them back to a healthy length and thickness.
So girls, suggestions?

have you tried olive oil? IT is supposed to be really moisturizing and great for the cuticles as well as the nail, giving it vitamins and hydrating. I imagine coconut oil would be great as well, or grapeseed oil!

Almond Oil on Mar 01, 2011 @ 05:53 pm

I too was a nail bitter and still am at times, but I found that soaking in almond oil helps stengthen the nails and bed. I use once a week by soaking my finger tips in a bowl for about 7 to 10 minutes. Take fingers out and massage in. Feels great on hands as well. Just remember it is an oil so skippery. Use paper towel to remove rest. (Almond oil can be purchased at some Bulk Barns or health food stores) P.S. Increase your vitamin B will control stress levels... Calming your nerves help calm the habit!

I've heard on Mar 02, 2011 @ 01:07 pm

I've heard B6 and B12 are very good for skin, hair and nails. Apparently women tend to be deficient in them, so perhaps look for a multiV that has a good amount of both. Also there are some Sally Hansen nail strengthening products, those are supposed to help keep your nails strong, and less prone to breakage. The olive oil soak sounds awesome too and good for your hand instead of just the nails :)

I also had VERY brittle and breakable nails... my hints to you are to get started... like i did... get your nails done. This made them strong and ready for work... next when your nail is about to rip file it KEEP A FILE ON YOU AT ALL TIMES!!!! Then i would buy th eSally Hanson Vitasurge for nail growth and put that on morning and night!! After a while you r nails will be GORGEUS and remember SHOW THEM OFF!!
