Well ive got my prom soon and i'd really like a bit of a tan seen as i am pasty white at the moment. I dont like fake tan and and of the spray tans ive seen on people look too over the top. so i was thinking about going on a sunbed, but is it the right decision and how long should i stay on if i only want a subtle tan?

A lot of celebs are ghostly white and I think it can look really beautiful if you wear the right colour of dress. Using a sunbed is actually damaging to your skin. Would you consider going au naturale ala Anne Hathaway?
If not, consider a self tanner vs. a tanning bed. We've got a nice rundown of them here
I still think the best thing is a little kiss of natural sunlight (10-15 min direct exposure here or there) vs. an orange glow.

I so wanted to be a little snarky and say "Go for it if you want to damage your skin at a cellular damage," but I won't :-)
Fact is, though, that tanning beds are as bad as hanging outside without SPF, worse even because they blast your skin so intensely with straight up UV rays AND they promote tan accelerators to help you get baked even faster. Please, please don't do that to your still youthful, innocent skin. What's it ever done to you? *grin*
If you don't love self tanner, try DuWop Revolution Deep Body Bronzing Lotion (at Shoppers Drug Mart). Scary dark when you squeeze a bit out, but goes on even fair skin like a gorgeous, glowing dream, with a tiny bit of sexy shimmer and not a streak in sight. The bonus besides that is that you don't get the chemical stink that happens when self-tanner ingredients start to work (even in the gradual products). As well, it won't transfer onto clothes, yet washes right off in the shower (you'll be able to wash it off your hands after you apply it, too).
Try it before your big day so you'll be confident about the result on prom day :-)
Take good care of that young skin you have -- it'll thank you as you get older by not showing your age :-)

I think i'll take your advice and find a good self tanner.
All my friends are against it too so i'll just do that, its just finding the right one but thankyou for the suggestion and the advice :)
