Treating Dry Damaged Hair

Hi ladies,

You probably know I had a bit of an experiment-gone-wrong episode with my hair.  So now although the colour is much better, the condition of my hair is bad.  It's really dry and damaged.  Do you guys know of anything I can do to help it recover faster?

I'm reading about hot oil treatments - any of you guys try this?  Home made or store bought?  Details please!

What about masks?  Which are the *best* mask?  Moroccan hair mask has a lot of good reviews but recently Kerastase is doing great too.  Which is better?

I don't have a ton of money to spend (life, bills, and now classes) but I would really like to help heal my hair faster.

I would love any suggestions you guys might have :-)  Thanks in advance!

A few tips on Apr 26, 2012 @ 01:51 pm

I'm no expert but I've heard that hydration and protein are the best treatments for dry hair. I know that a salon outlet like Chatters will have what you need and the girls there can recommend a good brand.

i found this article that has some good tips! http://www.hairbeautys.com/the-best-treatment-for-dry-hair-you-should-know/

I also love love love Cynos Moroccan Oil. I actually just wrote a review on it! I find it makes a HUGE difference in my hair quality so Moroccan Oil is a great way to go.

Good luck!

I recently read this article that I found had a lot of little common sense things we can do at home to help us out! I've been doing a few and find that it's helping out! (I also play with my hair a lot - dying, highlights, curlers, irons, etc!) Check it out!

Mayonnaise! on Apr 26, 2012 @ 09:45 pm

This may sound a little disgusting but it actually works! Mayonnaise in your hair, I promise you it will make your hair shiny and soft. Don't worry about getting the scent out of your hair, just shampoo and condition it like crazy after and it will get rid of the smell! Also leave in treatments like Aussie three minute miracle work well!

thank you! on Apr 27, 2012 @ 10:04 am

@beachbabe & @vlicious I actually read your links and followed links
within links, etc. and found the hot oil info. Thank you so much for
posting such helpful links!!

As far as hot oil treatments go, I'm reading good stuff about olive oil jojoba oil treatment

As far as hair masks, I'm debating between Kerastase Masquintense
and Moroccan oil intense hydrating mask

The Kerastase review can be found here
and the Morrocan oil mask review can be found here

Any of you girls try either of those? My hair is fine hair but thick in quantity. It's DRY and DAMAGED and BREAKS like crazy.

This sounds very dumb but I always assumed that my hair "falls out" and recently it's been falling out like nobody's business. I never realized that my hair doesn't fall out, my hear "Breaks" cuz it's too dry!!! Gives me a whole new perspective! I want an intense moisturizer that will help heal my poor dry breaking hair.

Girl, have you ever tried mayo in your hair? Does it really work? How long do you have to leave it in? Hmm.. I once tried eggs in my hair, didn't work out too well. You're supposed to heat the eggs and I accidentally cooked them the first two times I tried it lol!!

Also, I saw this really good review, any of you ever tried it?

ahah Yes I have tried mayonnaise :) on Apr 27, 2012 @ 12:03 pm

Hey Becky,

I used to have really damaged hair because I decided it would be a good idea to go blonde at the tips of my hair ( I have naturally black hair) and well....you know HOW WELL THAT WORKED Ahah...not so well so I ended up colouring it multiple times...I did it red a lot of times because red worked well but it always killed my hair and the colour seemed to rinse out pretty fast for some reason and so I just left it the colour that ended up coming out of all of that blonde and red....brown :P I used to put mayonnaise in my hair about once every two months and I leave it on for a good hour (but my hair is really long so it also depends on hair length) ahah yes I also tried it with eggs...not the greatest idea I find just because I wouldn't walk out the door because the smell didn't go away until after a good three washes!

If anything, try it out on the ends of your hair rather than the whole thing to see if it works for your hair, and if so then go for it! :)

I haven't tried either of those masks but they both look like they'd do the trick. I used K-Pak Reconstructing something by Joico and I found that stuff worked well. It had keratin or whatever it is in it! It's not as "hardcore" though so maybe something like that could be useful as a weekly thing after you've done a few intense protein treatments?

I totally know what you mean about the hair breakage! I love to get highlights, lowlights, all over colour, etc and I change my mind alot. lol But since I've been using Moroccan Oil, I'm losing less. It also could be attributed to an auto-immune illness I have though, which is also now under control with meds.... but either way! Use Moroccan Oil for sure, it's a miracle worker and I'm sure the mask will be stupendous for you!

Hope this helps on Apr 27, 2012 @ 03:37 pm

K-pak is amazing!! I suggest a good trim, and give your hair a break from curling irons, flatirons and the hair dryer.

K-Pak on May 03, 2012 @ 08:12 am

I also recommend K-Pak! It's amazing! Too rich for daily use, however!
AND you can get it at Shoppers Drug Mart or if you're lucky, Winners sometimes has it in their store at a great low price :)
