What is considered a "normal" price for a drugstore lipstick

on Aug 12, 2016 @ 10:38 am

I've always been on a tight budget my entire life, there are some lipsticks that catch my eye but I kind of feel hesitant to buy.. mainly because of its price. I often find myself asking, "is this really expensive or am I just -cheap-" I know some of you guys may say that there are high-end lipsticks that can be as expensive as 30 dollars (evidently, I am not their target market). I kind of want to explore other brands that aren't NYC or Wet n Wild even though I love them both, they always have their lipsticks for less than $4. Spanning between 1.97-3.00

I would appreciate your thoughts/opinions, thanks!

If there's someone working the beauty section, ask them where they keep the sales baskets. I often find the regular $10-$20 for around $2. My box of makeup here at home is full of COVERGIRL, Marcelle and RIMMEL, thanks to those markdowns.

Another tip: go to SmartSource.ca and SaveALoonie.com and look for coupons. There are always $1-$4 off coupons for some really great brands.

Happy shopping! :)

Hey and thank you for your reply!

There is this Covergirl lipstick I have my eyes on that is selling for 6.99 (the sale price) and I have a 2.00 smart source coupon for any cover girl lip product. so it should be about 5.90 after taxes in conjunction with the coupon. I'm trying to use reverse psychology on myself by trying to say"oh, the price you're paying is as if you bought 2 medium iced caps" but it's true though haha

Your drugstore seems to be fantastic with their sales! Walmart is the closest to me and 95% of the time there is no one at their beauty counter :/

Coupons for sure. They also sometimes have name brands in the dollar store. I personally signed up for Ipsy because I wanted to try more high end stuff, but I'm like you and think wow...30 bucks for a lipstick, not too sure.

I'd say an average drugstore lipstick would be about $9, but some are as cheap as $2 as you mentioned and upwards of maybe $16. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $9 and almost always buy lipstick on sale but maybe I am also cheap!

I have never spent $30 on a lipstick! I am cheap what can I say lol. I am very happy with the inexpensive brands I pick up at Walmart!

I fully admit I prefer to splurge a little on lipsticks, because for as long as I can remember, a lot of drugstore lip products have burned my lips. That being said, I bought a NYC tinted lip balm a few weeks ago which has a lovely coral colour and it is buttery smooth! It feels really comfortable, and there were a lot of shades available. I believe it was around $2.

You can also check your local Dollarama. I've been able to find quite a few brand name cosmetics there at a fraction of the regular drugstore price.

I decided to make the purchase on Aug 17, 2016 @ 02:54 pm

So I went to my local Rexall and bought 2 Katy Perry lipsticks in cosmo kitty and coral kat! I honestly couldn't resist. The purple shade is just so unique and I also wanted to have a nice coral colour that isn't too orange. It is really unlike me to "splurge" (probably not so much of a splurge for others) on lipsticks but I am now promising myself to stop buying lipsticks. I think after today, I am now fully content with the shades and selection I have. The lipsticks I got were on sale, they originally sell for 12.99 at Rexall and were 6.99 and I had a -2.00 cover girl lip product coupon from smartsource so each piece (with tax) was 5.90 (x2) so in a way, I got each for a bit less than half the original retail price. I can even consider it is as if I bought one and got one for free-- despite that my total purchase was less than what they originally were retailing for.

Approx. $12.00. But it all depends on the brand. Shoppers Drug Mart has good non-advertised sales, usually discontinued color.

I never buy lipsticks at a drug store; too expensive. I find better prices at Walmart and also Amazon.I try never to pay over $9.99
