What is the best hair salon in Calgary?

on Jan 09, 2012 @ 04:17 pm

Hello ladies,

I recently moved from Toronto to Calgary and I have been putting on getting my haircut because I have NO IDEA where to go where they won't ruin my hair.

I have long hair that is dark brown and it is a medium to fine thickness. Common error is they give me layers that makes my hair look thin and like a mop. I want that full look and not a lot of maintenance. Any idea ladies?

aveda!! on Feb 17, 2012 @ 05:54 pm

i live in lake louise now, but i did live in calgary for a couple months! i always went to the aveda (diva salon and spa) in southcentre mall. i have the same type of hair as you, but the hairdressers there were SO nice, i told them what i wanted and they listened but also gave suggestions to what would look good! it can get pricey for a cut depending on what kind of stylist you choose. i always went for a junior ($45) and they did an AMAZING job! i went to get color done there once and they did the haircut for free!! i wish i knew they name of the guy who cut my hair there but it's been a year! sorry! hope this helps :)

Hedkandi downtown - stylist Nicole W. is the best ever. I have the same type hair as you & she does an amazing job.

If you don't want to go downtown, D.K. Envy in the deep south is another great salon - owner Darlene or Alana are both excellent.

And midway, 17th Ave. S.W. is Jerome Hair - I've heard good things about this salon, but have never gone there myself.

Hope that helps & good luck! - I know how stressful this can be!!

I just noticed that this is an old post but wanted to add this one.

Jami Symons Salon. He's the artistic director for AG Hair Cosmetics. http://jamisymonssalon.com/jami2.html

I've seen some of his styles at hair shows and he's very dramatic.

I have an amazing hairdresser. She used to work at Studio 21 in Market Mall, and a few years again she opened her own salon. I am very picky when it comes to my hair, and she always does a great job.

Her name is LeAnn and her salon is called "Razors Edge Hair Studio". It is located at 4608 bowness road nw.

I went to her website page after I read the posting above. I've been living in Calgary for over 8 years now and never found a hair stylist I loved and usually had my hair coloured and cut either in Vancouver or Toronto but of course it would cost me an arm and a leg. After reviewing her portfolio, I decided to give her in house salon a try. I have to say I finally found a hairstylist I love!!! She did a fantastic job and her prices are great....root touchup, gloss and trim...$65 and I've paid $165 (not including tip)!!!
