Your "Signature Scent"

on Mar 17, 2011 @ 04:53 pm

Alright so I've been wearing this one perfume (Heiress from Paris Hilton) for around two years now and my close friends all tell me it reminds them of me.  One of those close friends however, got their boyfriend to buy it for them and has been wearing it obsessively ever since.  And it kind of makes me mad.  I know when her friends smell it (she has a LOT of friends who basically copy everything she does) they're going to think it's her thing and maybe even get it.  Now I know that there's probably millions of bottles of this perfume and people wear it all the time, but I don't know those people.

ANYWAY, my question is: do you have a signature scent, what is it, and do you/would you get mad if someone who was a close friend to you wore it?

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I didn't know where to put it!

I love coco mademoiselle from Chanel and if anyone in my inner circle wore it, I would get annoyed. There are plenty of scents out there, go find another one!

I can completely understand if it is someone in your close circle of friends and now you have to smell it on them every day. It's a compliment, but perfume is one of those things that makes us feel unique. Scent is very personal.

I have been in this position too and I chose to take it as a compliment. Mind you, it's someone who lives in another city so I don't see her that often.

Why not try something new on Mar 21, 2011 @ 09:50 am

I had a perfume I wore everyday for three years and then it was discontinued! I was so upset, but then I tried a new perfume and found one I love just as much even though it's completely different. Maybe it's just about finding a new fragrance to love?

In my opinion you've got 2 choices:

1) Keep wearing your scent and forget about anyone else that's wearing it (or why). Perfume can smell very different on different people, but I guess if she's really laying it on it's not really mixing with her natural scent.

2) Go shopping! Be up step for a day and then go out and try some of the new scents (we just featured some pretty awesome new ones). A new scent can be like a new style or a new hairdo, it comes with a fresh perspective and attitude - you could use this as an excuse to start something new!

The thing about this perfume though, it's like if I could create a perfume that would be absolutely perfect for me, the one I have would be it. I'm so confident that there can't be a perfume that would suit me better. I'm always going to department stores and seeing what's new in, and I've bought a few others that I LOVEEE but none of them could be my "signature scent".
Anyway I'm still going to wear it, I'm not like.. devastated that she's wearing it or anything, I just wanted to see if other people were possessive about their perfumes too! :)

Good to hear! on Mar 21, 2011 @ 03:54 pm

I'm glad you're confident enough to keep wearing it! She'll probably move on to another scent eventually and you won't have to worry about it at all.

I think I would be possessive of my scent too if I had one - I'm just not ready to make that commitment to one perfume yet ;)

Try layering? on Mar 21, 2011 @ 04:32 pm

@mollymarie you could try layering your fragrance? Take the one you love and just tweak it a little either with another fragrance you love, a scented body lotion or with a single note oil? It will tweak your signature fragrance a bit, though not change it, and also make it yours alone. It might take some experimenting, but could be fun!

Be sure and let us know if you try it!
