I was recently at the launch of Dove's new line up of skincare for Men (the hubs gives it thumbs up so far) and they were discussing how most men feel they are portrayed inaccurately in the media. I thought that was an interesting discussion. Guys do you feel that way?
I've often laugh at commercials where the woman is fit, attractive and together and the husband is portrayed as portly, lazy and in many cases, dim-witted. He's either that or a hunk with washboard abs. What do you think about the way men are portrayed in the media?

Men are quite caricatured in the media. My hubby simply takes a thoughtful swig of his Yuengling (current fave brew), and asks me why I care - because he certainly doesn't.
Now, if I'm looking at the washboard ab dudes - that he does care about.

Either the men are poor bumbling fools, and the women have to correct their sorry misinformed ways, OR they're smokin hot with crazy abs (razor ads anyone?)
Then of course there is the stereotypical beer ad guy ... don't even get me started on them.

My guess is, as mamalov hinted at w/ her husband, that men really just don't care. Generally speaking, men do not care as much about media and perceptions. They traditionally are not deep thinkers when it comes to image and trends. Again, I'm speaking loosely here as I know this is a generalization and there are men out there who care deeply about their perceived image. But most men just don't care and are more concerned about having a beer in hand and their favorite show or game on TV.

I think men are not treated properly in the media. There are too many commercials that portray men in a bad light. Now I will also have to say that many men seem to live their life as close to the stereotypical male image as they can. Most do not take very good care of their bodies, doing only the minimum amount to pass in society. They have not figured out that the ladies have all the good and pampering products. ;-)
