How much clothing do you need for a year?

I just read this article on a company that has produced a 10 piece wardrobe that is designed to be used for a year.

Okay- I don't know about you but I think I need more than 10 pieces for an entire year!

The collection is very minimalist, clean lines, nothing too crazy and in basic colours. The whole idea is to mix and match to create as many outfits as you can. The pieces are also convertible. All are made-to-order from organic cotton and recycled materials including jersey, georgette and poly chiffon. Pieces can be sent back to the company- ULTRA at any time for mending or upcycling.

Is something you'd ever consider? How much clothing do you have or do you think you wear in a year?

Reminds me of the popular 30 items 30 days challenge a lot of bloggers have undertaken (basically you pick 30 items from your closet including accessories and make new outfits using only those pieces) expect taken to the extreme!

I'm def. a minimalist kind of dresser but i need a little more flexibility then 10 items (if that doesn't include shoes or accessories).

I don't know about this on Oct 17, 2011 @ 11:27 am

Myself I don't have a whole lot in my wardrobe as it is, but I still couldn't do only ten pieces for a hole year. Maybe if I lived somewhere were the weather didn't change much, but living in Canada I feel you need a lot more then ten pieces just to make it through a season. Our weather changes way to much to only have ten things to choose from. At least that's how I feel about it.

The only way this would work is if I had a zillion accessories to make the combos a little more unique. That might defeat the purpose of a capsule wardrobe though! I'm sorry - 10 pieces for the entire year, even if you could do it up 50 ways is just too boring. I like my neutrals just fine but need loud splashes of colour on a regular basis - more than a necklace would give.

Couldnt do it! on Oct 19, 2011 @ 05:25 pm

If I like something I want it in 3 colours! I couldnt just stick a basic wardrobe. Im happy having pieces that only get wore a few times a year when the mood or occasion hits. Its the same with the accessories.. I must have 2 dozen headbands on the back of my bathroom door and hubby had to buy me an actual furniture style jewelry armoire for my collection.

This reminds me of the handbag thread awhile ago....2 boxes full. lol!

I agree accessories are key. I think you'd be pretty sick of the clothes by the end of that year though. I love the minimalist idea but it would be hard. It would also be impossible if you live somewhere with 4 seasons.

Amazing... on Nov 17, 2011 @ 03:44 pm

I consider my self very fashion oriented. I love to accessorize, great bags great shoes.
I really don't think ten basic colorless pieces would spark my imagination. I would love to take the challenge though.
