I think it really depends on the colour and the size of the prints.
This is a good wiki on how to mix prints and patterns: http://www.wikihow.com/Mix-Prints
Repeat colours, big and small prints, etc. A really informative article. Some of the stuff I never knew myself. Then again, I'm not a big fashionista.

I am horrible at mixing prints. I always end up looking ridiculous. I'm envious of people who can do it! On The Mindy Project, Mindy is constantly mixing prints. Her stylist is amazing. Check out some of her photos for inspiration!

Mixing prints is great for spring / summer, and it's a lot of fun!
I would suggest starting with one main piece (ie: dress, romper, etc.) with a bold print and adding a secondary piece with a neutral print. This could be like white polka dots or stripes. The secondary piece can also share color with the main piece, as long its not the dominating color in the main piece.

I think mixing prints can be fun, but as a rule no more than one of them can be bold. So like, a houndstooth jacket with large floral print pants is going to be too much.

Mixing prints can be really fun, I find some of the best fashion statements are made when people think outside the box! Have fun with it and if you like the way it looks then nothing else matters!
