Someone mentioned sweater dresses in another thread and I've never
heard of them before so I did a little research and wanted some more
-Where can I get a good sweater dress that doesn't make me look bulky, falls to about my knees, and isn't horribly expensive? I don't like the really short ones.
-Do I wear leggings or tights with these? And/Or tall boots?
-Should I wear something undernearth it like a slip?

I have a couple of those. It's just a sweater that is long enough to wear as a dress. Wear it with tights (with feet - not cut off) and boots or booties. I have fitted ones and looser ones.
It's hard to recommend stores without knowing what city you live in. If you're in Toronto, I bought a couple from Girl Friday but Jacob, Bedo and Le Chateau usually have them.
In the USA I would recommend trying Express
For both Canada and the USA or online try Banana Republic:

I do live in Toronto so any other suggestions are welcome.

They are actually everywhere this season. I just passed by Jacobs this morning and they had a grey dress very similar to what anonymous has posted. FCUK has one with more winter patterns to it.(grey/white, brown/grey) BCBG has a really cute one with puffed sleeves. Zara, H&M have few color options as well.
It depends on your figure, but usually it's better to stay away thick or largely knitted ones as they will make you look bulkier. You HAVE to try them on, even when they look the same way, each will cling differently on your body.

I bought a grey one from Smart Set for $55 and I think I look pretty good in it. The only thing is I have tall brown boots as opposed to black so I think I have to go get some black ones. The only part I didn't like was the neck is very heavy but I looked so good in it that I had to get it. I will look around and maybe get one of another colour.
I was surprised at how warm it was. I was practically sweating in the change room.
Thanks a lot everyone for your advice.

I actually found a sweater dress at winners. It wasn't on the sale rack, but i fell in love and had to have it. It's a short dress, so needs to be worn with jeans, but i absolutely love it. it is warm and yet stylish, which is sometimes difficult with a wool sweater. I absolutely love this trend, and I believe all body types can wear them and get away with it (unlike skinny jeans).
But yes, i think a longer sweater dress would look smart with tights, maybe some boots. I have been wearing my short brown leather boots with mine and love the look.
Finally a style that makes sense to me!

They have over 20 different styles of sweater dresses, very cute and sexy while covering enough to keep you warm. victoriassecret.com
|Those are so nice! on Nov 11, 2008 @ 11:14 pm|
I really like the ones at Victoria Secret! If only there were some in Toronto so I could actually try them on. They look so nice on the models but I have no idea if the styles would fall on my body the same way.

They don't sell clothing at their stores in the states either, I've yet to see it anyway :)
