So, it's about that time of year that I am in serious need of a new purse because my old one that had been beautiful, at one time is now falling to pieces. We all dread getting a new bag because you always have to search and search until you find the perfect one to suit everything you want it to, but the problem is I am no longer in the position to be carrying around a bag that I only fit my lipgloss, keys, etc because I am as of now going to University and I need a type, that I can shove all of my books in and still have room for my other belongings. I need something that will multi-task, by looking fashionable but also being appropriate to carry my books in. Anddd something that can go with my dark brown leather jacket, that I just bought and love to pieces :) If you have any suggestions about color, I’d like to hear what you think about that too.

I bought this bag from Roots on our last ShopCrawl, though in a slightly different colour and I LOVE it. I find it big enough to carry a small laptop (a Macbook) and still a few essentials, wallet, keys phone, etc.
However if you'd like something less expensive for school, I always used to buy a cheap but stylish bag from H M that I could throw all of my stuff into.

If you have the patience, you can always ransack Winners. Ask the sales associate what day of the week their new stocks arrive and go shop the day after the arrival. Winners has a lot of selections whether you are looking for different styles, size, colour. You can get a nice, hip, functional bag for $30-50. Their brand name bags usually runs around $60-80.
The trick really is to go as soon as their new stocks come in b/c all the good bags get snapped up really quickly. I don't have a lot of patience for Winners. I usually just walk up and down the aisles once and I'll stop if something catches my eyes. I've gotten some really good stuff there though! :)
|Backpack? on Sep 03, 2009 @ 01:10 am|
I never really understood why girls carried huge bags/purses to carry all their school books in. It's a strain on your shoulder and back. I would personally go for a backpack if you're carrying books to distribute the weight over your shoulder, back and if you use the additional straps hips.
If you're just carrying one binder or a clipboard or something light, maybe go with a messenger bag?

..this question!! I just came back from 3 hours of walking up n down
Fairview Mall..soo tiring..with absolutely no bag that I think could be
perfect for uni stuff. Though, Aldo had some interesting bags but none
that could fit my laptop. Going to check out Stylesense tomorrow, just
like Winners(its the same company, right?), these ppl have aisles n
aisles of bag/purses/totes/u name it!! I usually carrt the huge TNA bag
during heavy uni days..but everyone has one now..want something
different! Also, try the Heartland or Vaughan Mills Aldo and
H&M;...both are outlets and hence, carry more variety and are
huge..more chances of finding something you are looking for.
And tigerlilly, I agree..a backpack is pratical and at times,
economical too..but imo, it doesn't go with uni attire or even a winter
coat..it just ends up looking too weird.
Warrior: Good luck for 1st day of uni..hope you enjoy the ride ^.^ Its my last yr! *sob* and I still can't find a bag!! :P

All very good ideas that I will carry with me when I shopping for my new bag. I was going to add when I was writing this that a backpack would be much more practical but, like dizzyonlemonade had said, it doesn't go with anything. Although, tigerlilly had made an excellent point on how the weight of carrying large amounts on one shoulder can lead to problems later on in life. But, I think when it does come down to it, I would like a bag that will multi-task for me during school and out, I don't want to have more than one bag to be carrying my things in. It would be a hassel with having to remember to take your keys, wallet, lipgloss, ect out of one bag and into the other when you are about to go out to school, or wherever. Just need to look around a bit until you find the bag that suits you. And thanks, dizzyonlemonade, I am looking forward to doing it! :)
|backpack is best on Sep 04, 2009 @ 08:22 pm|
Tigerlily made a very good point. When I was in school, I was one of
those ppl who carted the books around in a backpack plus a little
shoulder bag for my purse. On the heavy bag days, I leave even the
purse at home b/c there was just too much weight on my shoulders. I
always use both straps. I know I looked ridiculous with a backpack
(however nice it was) and a nice outfit, but there was just no way I
can carry that many books with me up and down our hilly campus. That
was pre-laptop days...
When I got my laptop, my hubby bought me a gorgeous leather carrying
case from Danier. I LOVED IT! I felt so stylish and grown up and I
lugged that around everywhere (thank goodness I didn't have to lug
textbooks around in addition to the laptop). But as tigerlily said,
carrying all the weigh on one shoulder is bad for your posture and
therefore your back and spine. After a few months, my back and
shoulders were hurting so much that I had to go see a physio. She told
me to lose the bag and get a proper backpack that will distribute the
weight evenly. She told me to go to camping stores and buy something
that gives me good padding on the shoulders, chest strap and most
importantly, a thick padded waste strap.
I went to the MEC and bought a small size camping bag. I looked
absolute ridiculous going to school everyday with my camping bag. I
had many ppl asked me where I was going with my big bag, but that bag
saved my back. It was worth every penny and definitely worth all the

Lululemon has big tote bags that are cute, and very stylish. They just came out with a new one, and I really like it, because it's more of a large purse then a gym back. Check their website!
