Looks like old man winter is coming to Newfoundland sooner rather than later.I don't know about you Chicks but,I really hate winter.I get so depressed it's sad.I have SAD's Seasonal Adjustment Disorder.I hate changes and can't or have difficulty excepting nice weather going to winter so fast.I hate changes. Some people look forward to winter, the snow and anything else that comes with it.I am not an outdoors person in cold weather.I love the Summer and pratically live outside in the Summer.I love in my Garden ,making changes and planting flowers,I love the hot sunny days.I was wondering if I had something to do in the Winter months to keep busy like, study gardening books and learning new techniques about gardening would make me feel better any ideas Chicks? What do you think I should do to help me through the winter months?Appreciate all your ideas.

Perhaps you can go for bowling, do some reading, learn dancing, cooking, crocheting or even listen to Audio books (there are alot of these).
|8 Weeks of Dark... on Nov 04, 2014 @ 08:04 am|
I know what that feels like - I was diagosed with SAD when I was in university. Consider getting a light box... and place it beside your computer. Use it every day - whether you feel like it or not and it will balance your rhythms. I I used to force myself (in every weather!) to take my morning coffee break to walk around the block outside, looking into the sun as much as possible. It was 15 minutes to get fresh air, get a bit of exercise, and ensure more light was getting to my retina. I also play games with myself - I break down the darkest months into sections like The Holidays (so much to do and places to go that I rarely have time to get too down), and my '8 weeks of dark' (the weeks between when the tree comes down and when I really feel the difference with the growing light). I anticipate it, plan for it, and give myself treats during that time. I try to read more (but only fun books!), do a home project that will make me happy, travel (if it's in the budget - to a brighter place), go for walks in the woods (no bugs, no mud... and very bright so I get a re-boot!), create your own holidays in that period so you have reason to look forward to it (Shrove Tuesday/Mardi Gras, Chinese New Year etc.) In the end I know the 8-weeks of Dark is coming, but if I have things planned to make some fun in there it distracts me... and getting light every day at the same time also helps a lot! Even if it's standing inside at a window and spending 10-15 minutes looking into the light. Hope this helps you!

Can you imagine how much homeless people must hate the weather change?! Try helping people who are less fortunate than you and it might get you through the Winter knowing you made a difference in someone's life. Volunteer at a soup kitchen or if you can knit, make some blankets, hats, and mitts and donate them... If you can't knit try collecting winter clothes from friends and family and who ever and donate those...
