This is a clip from a Charlie Chaplin film that was made in 1928. In this clip, you see a woman (or man) walking and holding what appears to be a walkie-talkie or cellphone and she/he is actually talking to it. What could she/he be holding and be talking to? Mobile phones were not invented back then. The more I watched, the more intriguing it becomes. People who commented on the video were just as confused and nobody seems to know. What do you guys think it is?

You don't need sound to watch this.

the scarier it gets.
I refuse to believe it!!!!
Edit: I take it back. Even if it were a cell phone, that'd be impossible....who can he possibly be talking to? how can he get signal when there's no infrastructure? :O AND if time travel WERE possible, i am sure the future would have done something about it.
I clearly thought about this too much.

Some people thinks she is holding a bag of ice or something because of a toothache but that doesn't even make sense because she is talking TO it and the way she is holding that object is like how someone would hold a phone...

I'm not buying it. You'd think someone on set would notice as this would be quite shocking. This isn't a random shot on the street where they happened to catch someone walking by. Sets are quite closed and private. Anyone appearing on camera was told to walk across the screen at that moment. The likelihood of someone talking on a cell phone in that scenario and no one noticing is pretty much impossible.

a type of hearing aid device that they used back then, but
