Kensington Market

I don't know if this can really be considered 'hidden,' persay, but it's definitely a gem!
I love going to Kensington Market, especially when it's nice out and you can wander the streets freely. They have really cool vintage stores, and really good cafes/bakeries too - try out Kensington Cafe especially. I don't know if they still do this anymore, but when I went there over the summer, they gave my friend and I free coffee (we had to ask for it though). I've never been to one of them, but also during the summer/early fall, they do car free days on some Sundays, where no cars are allowed in the area, everyone just walks around in the streets, and I think they also have free entertainment and such. I love Kensington - it's one of the best places in Toronto in my opinion.

I love the little cool things you can find in Kensington Market...for instance you can buy the same place mats they sell in Pier One for $8 in Kensington market for like $2!

what gives me the biggest rush is finding those sandals with the sequins on them for $2! Also, I went there in September and there was this jewelery store that was closing. Everything was 75% off and I got 5 pairs of earrings for about $3!

Wow! on Jan 31, 2007 @ 10:42 pm

I've been to kensington a few times. There's some great restaurants there like La Palette and SuperMarket. I haven't really shopped much there because the whole clothes-on-the-lawn thing wierded me out a little, but they do have some great specialty shops where you can get hard to find stuff like Dulce de leche which is an amazing caramel spread that Argentinians go bonkers for.

That dulce de leche stuff sounds really yummy - do you know which specific places sell it?
I was going to buy fruit from there once, because it's way cheaper than in a grocery, but then I saw flies on the fruit and decided not to.

Can't remember the name of the store! on Feb 01, 2007 @ 08:52 pm

Sorry! It's in the most populated area and it's just a little shop that sells specialty groceries and spices. Not really a fruit store. Sorry! It's not much help but if you poke your head into a few shops you should be able to find it.
