Advice for Montreal Stay

on May 25, 2010 @ 09:07 am

Hey girls,

In a little over a month I will be doing a short exchange to Montreal (I live in Toronto). I will be staying in a dorm there for 5 weeks and was wondering if I could count on you for some advice on two things:

1) Do you have any tips/advice for staying in a dorm? I have never lived in one before so I'm wondering if there are things that I might not think to bring with me, or to do while I'm there? Keep in mind it’s a short stay, so I may not need the same things that you would for a whole school year…

2) Are there any places in Montreal I simply MUST see while I'm there, or things I just HAVE to do? I have been to Montreal before but never for this long so I am wondering if you can share any cool secrets you may know about the city? Also are there any gems that I can get in Montreal that I can't find in Toronto (I'm thinking fashion and beauty here…)

Any wisdom you ladies could share would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

If you eat meat and not a health freak, I'd recommend you try Montreal smoked meat from Schwartz's. Hubby and I always share a platter; it's a lot of food but it's so much fun to build your own sandwich. :P I enjoy their pickles too if you like them.

I love the BioDome and the Botanical Garden. Check out their websites because they have package rates if you want to go to more than one museum. I also like their Insectarium; they have a lot of cool bugs (some dead, some alive) but I realize that's not for everyone. :P

Old Montreal is a must. Beautiful area with lots of good restaurants (but pricey). There is a place called Maple Delights that sells AWESOME gelato, made with maple sugar. Soooo Gooooood!! I believe it is located in Old Montreal (although I might have it mixed up with Old Quebec); check the map before you go. :P

Montreal usually have festivals and concerts all the time. Maybe you can drop by a tourist information and ask them what's happening around town while you are there.

Have fun and hope you like Montreal!!
