I have a few get together a at my place a year. Usually just for the kids birthdays. I find it's not as FUN as when I go to other people's homes for get togethers...maybe cause I'm just too concerned about everyone enjoying their time and food etc.
So my question is ... What are some BEST HOST ideas you have? I always make sure I have a lot of good for everyone and a variety of food. I feel everyone looks at my place as the boating place and with my sons bday coming up I want to make sure it's fun and everyone enjoys their time.

My biggest one would be make sure to have several options for entertainment later if people want and always to have enough food!

I think the trick to any good party or get together is in the preparation. Try to have everything prepared in advance so that you can also enjoy the event and you won't feel frazzled the day of. Sometimes we get caught up with the preparation that we end up spending most of our time in the kitchen making food and washing dishes afterwards that we don't get to actually interact with guests (P.S. - Paper plates can be your best friend!). You can prep certain dishes the day before or get foods that don't require much on your part in terms of cooking. Potlucks are also great. All you need to think about is the entertainment and refreshments.

Another tip I can give you is to always have a back up plan. Keep the pizza delivery number handy in case your guests stay longer than expected or have a variety of options for kids in terms of games (board games, a coloring station and/or a movie are simple to set up).

Enjoy your son's birthday party and let us know how it all went for you!
