I love reading the reviews on items I am interested in buying but I've noticed many times that they are reviewed only by those interested or in need of the item. More people need to apply for products outside their "wheelhouse". For instance: I may not need to eat gluten-free products but I applied anyway because I feel a true review comes from those who may not need, have interest in or are not necessarily have a personal relationship with the product.
I may not be allergic to gluten but my nephew is and I what to make certain what I'm feeding him is not only gluten-free but edible. I also think that those choosing the reviewers should take this into account.

The only ones I haven't applied for are ones I would have absolutely no use for. ie. Pet items (no pets) the Mabels Labels (no children)

I apply for all the ones I'm qualified for. Sometimes it's stated that it's for mom's or pets, than I can't really apply for those since I'm not a mom nor do I have pets.:D
