I am pretty new to couponing and I am amazed by how much money I've saved using coupons. However, I often feel embarrassed using high-value or full-product coupons. Am I the only feeling that way? Sometimes I even buy things which are not on my shopping lists so that it makes me look better. But I feel it's a bit silly coz it defeats the whole purpose of saving money.

Aw, no, don't sweat it at all!! I don't really understand the part of buying things that aren't on your shopping list to make you look better but a word of advice (for money saving) buy only the things you need/will use!
Saving money is a good and great thing! Nothing embarrassing at all! There is nothing shameful about using coupons, they help us save money, especially for those who have tight budgets or want to spend less money. I actually feel pretty good when I save money :) Don't worry anon, it's normal to feel a bit shy when you start couponing but I promise you, no one is judging at all!

Nope not embarrassed at all! I like to save money. A lot of the time when I use a full product coupon the cashiers ask me how they can get it themselves.

I was a little embarrassed the first few times. Not anymore. Especially when most of the cashiers would ask how do I get these coupons. They would always say, you saved so much, it's awesome! It is indeed awesome to save money!
Don't get embarrassed, you will get used to it. It's actually pretty fun.

Sometimes I worry that they won't be excepted for some reason but that's never happened and it's only the few seconds before I check out.

When I first started couponing, I used to get embarrassed. I HATED holding up the line. Hated the cashier pondering over the coupon (is this the right product? Is it expired?) Hated the cashier never knowing how to enter the coupon correctly and waiting for the supervisor/manager...
NOW however, I'm not embarrassed. I LOVE my free product coupons, and I use $ off coupons on almost everything. It takes a bit longer and I often hold up the line, but that's a price I'm willing to pay to save money! No shame to b found there. Now I'm PROUD of my savings.
I do, however, try to shop during "off times". I don't go during the lunch or supper rush, for example. And if there's somebody with just an item or two behind me in line, I let them go first.
Rock those coupons girl! No shame in saving money!

I also found what @MelRichard said to be true at first. I get nervous when they have to call the manager, especially for printed coupons. However, it is your right to use them so don't feel bad about it.

When I first started using coupons, I was a little uncomfortable. And every once n a while I'll run into a cashier who acts as though I'm trying to commit some sort of fraud and will hold up the line. I'm with MelRichard in that I try to plan for quieter times, and even know some of th better cashiers in places I go often. Some tips that I found that may make it easier, and go quicker:
I use a highlighter to highlight expiration date so the cashier doesn't have to read through to find it.
I put all my coupon items through the cash at the end, and let the cashier know I have coupons for these items...that way if she needs to compare items to coupon (for weight or size, etc) she can do it without having to go through already bagged merchandise.
Not so much an issue any more, but make sure you know the stores coupon policy...a few years back some stores didn't accept Printed coupons.
I once had a very high value dog food coupon...the cashier jokingly said she was jealous, so next time I went in, I gave her the link so she could get her own!
No shame in balancing your budget...remember that the store gets reimburse for that coupon, so it is just another form of currency.

I worked retail for a long time, so I was very accustomed to being on the other side of the cash. It never bothered me to accept the coupons, and I was one of the cashiers who would ask people how they got some of them. To this day, I am on mailing lists and get random stuff in the mail from some of those tips I got years ago.
One thing I do to help the cashiers, though, especially with printed coupons, is highlight things like item size and expiry dates. That saves them time in scanning all the fine print.
