Does your page name have a meaning..

Or is it just something that came to mind at the time?

My name Takoda is a Sioux Native American name for a boy.

Takoda means- Friend to everyone.

It's not only my page name, but is our Labs real name.

I gave this name to him because both of our last two dogs that were Jack
Russell’s were nasty little buggers that like to bite.

I told my husband that I needed a good dog that would be friendly, but would
also keep strangers away when he was working out of town, so he bought me
Takoda.

I picked this name for him for two reasons. My husband is part native Canadian,
but mostly because of the meaning of the name.

The reason I decided to use his name as my page name is, because I'd like to
think that I can be a friend to everyone even if we may not agree on everything.

So does your page name have any meaning?

I wish :( on May 17, 2011 @ 11:12 am

Unfortunately, my lack of creativity resorted to me using my real name.

Takoda is such a cool name though and a good story behind the name too! I actually wondered about how you got that name so thanks for sharing!

Cool thread! I'd love to know where a all of the ladies names came from :-)

I was at work when a user came up to me, asked me my name, and started mispronouncing it. (I'm in IT so everyone who's non-IT is a "user" to me). She kept continuously mispronouncing it in creatively different ways. Poor lady was just adamant to get my name right and spent a good 5mins trying different variations of pronouncing my name. OK I don't have a 16 letter name. My name is very simple phonetic 4 letters; it sounds the way it's spelt, spells the way it sounds. Not sure why she couldn't wrap her head (tongue? lol) around it.

Anyways so after she gave up and finally left a coworker turned to me and says "you should have a white name, your white name should be Becky". I thought that was hilarious and that's where "Becky" came from! :-)

That's just too funny! You should have a white name. I almost wet my pants laughing when I read that.LOL Thanks for sharing Becky.

And Thanks Tammy, I read through so many native names and they're meanings I though my eye's were going to fall out. When I finally found this name I just knew it was the right name for my baby and he is a big baby.

Becky, that's hilarious! And Takoda, what a sweet story behind your name!

I was one of the very first members on CA and was not part of the staff at that time. I had just had my 3rd baby and was in my maternal glory (I'm crazy, I love the 2am feedings and teeny tiny babies). My name came out of that and when I became part of the team I wanted to change my name to my real name so other chicks would be able to identify me better, but everyone I mentioned that to said they couldn't imagine me by any other name... so I guess I'm stuck with it :)

cool!!!
When I was young, we had many native american learning sessions in my school, and somebody came in annually to watch us for a week and assign us our native american names!

I think one of my names at one point was Don Wolf? Because I was a self-proclaimed leader :) (i used to round up all the girls to beat up the boys at recess)

That experience really got me interested in the culture, and your story just completely reminded me of my elementary school days.

I love your name and now hearing why you choose it makes it mean even more.
I can relate to loving those teeny tiny babies. Mike was as small as a doll at 4lb's and 11 oz and Luke was pretty small too at 5lb's and 12oz, but the 2am feeding I don't miss at all!! LOL

Rounding up all the girl’s to beat up the boy’s. You must
have bin a hand full for your mother jskim07. LOL

That’s so cool that your school took the time to teach your
class about such a wonderful culture. We all can learn a lot from them if more
of us would just take the time to.

mamaluv: your name suits your personality. You are so warm, loving, & caring, I dunno...you just have so much genuine warmth and love for everyone, I can't picture you with any other 'handle' (forum name) than "mamaluv" :)

@takoda: I love the meaning behind your name!! "Friend to everyone". Something we should all aspire to be :-)

Oh and I was
reading your post about exercise programs. I can speak on any of that because
of the shape I'm in; it's just something that I really can't do myself. I just
want you to know that I'm still here for you and I think that you're doing a
great job. Most people in your situation would have given up a long time ago.
You'll get there in time if you just keep trying and keep trying different
things like you have bin.

You go
girl!! Big hugs!

This should be fun to hear! on May 18, 2011 @ 08:52 am

I like hearing everyone's stories!

I don't actually think of myself as "gorgeous" I am actually pretty hard on myself, like most ladies.

The nickname actually started when I was 18. My last name is Slovenian and hard to pronounce, all my life I've had to sit through torturous roll calls and attendance calls as people butchered my name. Worst was grad... anyway!

One day, at my little part time gig, a bunch of us were discussing my name and trying to get the pronunciation correct when one of the guys said 'I am just calling you Mary GORgeous!'... close enough lol and it stuck!
