So my partner is telling me to pick my own engagement / wedding ring .... but i don't know what to pick!!!
I do NOT want to go for the solitaire - everyone does that.
I thought I wanted to get an Eternity Ring but now i'm not too sure...
I want something I can wear all the time, that won't attract fur/wool, won't get stuck on my clothes or hair, and something that LOOKS good (obviously!) :-)
I've been sitting around for the last month googling ideas ... when i thought of you guys! Who better to ask for advise than the chickadvisor group?
So come on ladies, give me ideas :-)
thank you in advance!!

|What's your personality? on Nov 24, 2009 @ 07:46 pm|
Choosing the right ring is all about your personality. I'll tell you off the bat that a good quality ring won't catch on your clothes (as much) because they will have done a good job with the claws. If it is cheaply made or the stones are loose, that is when you run into problems.
Eternity rings are gorgeous but because the diamonds go all the way around, you will find you get a lot of lotion and other junk in it so you will need to clean it more often. If you like the look of that, you might want to consider one that goes half way around with diamonds, but the back is plain. Who sees that part anyway?
I've always been a sucker for the 3 stone engagement ring where the center stone is the largest. Getting the center diamond as a Canary (yellow diamond) is a gorgeous modern twist.
Non traditional rings can be gorgeous too. I love this one from Tiffany.
Good luck and let us know what you pick! BTW, smart man to let you do the choosing ;)

My engagement ring is channel set diamonds half way around. The back side of the band is just gold. I like it a lot b/c it never gets caught on things. Also, I'm a woman of fairly simple and modest taste, so this type of ring suited my personality perfectly.

I am a fan of solitaires and I've always known this is what I want. I find solitaires so simple and yet elegant. I also have small hands so I find anything but a solitaire looked weird on me. :P
My bestfriend's engagement ring is also channel set. She has a very active lifestyle and she didn't want anything that sticks out and didn't want to risk having the diamond caught on anything. Her ring has 5-6 diamonds halfway around as well and it's Gorgeous!! So sparkly, so beautiful.
I suggest you look at the small privately owned jewelry store for ideas. I find the stores in the mall all have the same stuff, nothing special. We got our engagement ring from a local jeweler who can actually make any design we want. Then, I got my wedding band from a store downtown whose owner goes to jewelry shows each year and personally pick out the jewelry he wants to carry in his store.

I know you said you don't want a solitaire, but there are a lot of fancy settings that makes a solitaire more interesting, more unique.
I bought my wedding band at Howard's Jeweller. Expensive but they have Beautiful stuff. You can check out their website for some ideas!

I'd recommend considering how a wedding band will fit with your engagement ring. Not just style wise, but actually sitting smoothly beside. As for styles of rings - it really depends on your personal style, but I've always thought having a diamond band is classic and attractive.

Congratulations, that is so exciting! Can't wait to see the pics! Load them into your profile as that's the place where you can share that :)
Thanks Ali ..!!! I am sooooooooo excited and incredibly happy... he is precisely what I've always wanted but always compromised on and never got. It's like God took the blueprint from my head and turned it into him...lol I really never thought I could be this happy...OK i'm gonna stop cuz i can REALLY go on on this topic lol :-)
I sort of wanted an eternity style wedding ring but we got the above mentioned instead. The other day he surprised me with an eternity ring to go with my engagement ring...just because!! It's simple but I love it.
He has my wedding ring, so after the big day I'll take pics of all of them and post on CA... :-)
