Ok kids, I realize a good bunch of you are from the great land to the north, Canada (I love Canada -- thought about moving there after the past 2 US presidential elections). That makes this poll that much more interesting to me.
I grew up in a part of the US called the "midwest". Now I live in California. I've learned that folks out here don't define the midwest quite the same way. I learned that the midwest is different for just about every person out there! So what I want to know is, where do you think is the USA's "midwest"?
To start is off, I'll provide my definition:
Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio
|pretty close! on Mar 22, 2007 @ 12:12 pm|
I also lump farm country, like kansas, and maybe the dakotas, into the midwest. Just because I don't know where else to put them. Ohio is a little iffy to me, since I tend to lump it with PA and NJ in the northeast, i don't consider it midwest anymore. But maybe that's because I only visit Cleveland and thats very close to PA. To me, midwest is like the Central time zone, not counting the states that border mexico or the gulf. But I don't consider Oklahoma or Arkansas midwest, so midwest is North of those states. Honestly I haven't really given it that much thought. If it's flat and you can grow corn, and frozen in winter, it's midwest! lol. But I'm from California and Nevada, so that's my westerner definition.

I think of it as anything due south of our "mid-west" which is Manitoba + Saskatchewan.

If anyone asks me anything about American geography that does not involve NYC, San Francisco California (west coast), Boston, Florida (south), or L.A then I have no idea what they are talking about... LOL
Mid west to me is: Those states in the middle of America, those that are so nicely cut into square shapes on the map. LOL.... It makes me sound so stupid HAHAHAHAHAHA
Yes so I really don't know much about America.
|Did I even get those right? on Mar 31, 2007 @ 03:09 pm|
Yea so those places above, did I even get those correct?
Ask me anything about Canada and i will know it, America I am lost.

Well, artist, there is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer, as I'm learning. For me, it was always so obvious and cut and dry where the Midwest is. It seems variety abounds for the definition of the midwest.
I polled a bunch of friends a year or so ago and put the results up on a blogspot page. Anyone here ... feel free to contribute!! :-)
