Alex and I have been on the hunt for a house for the past few months. Our condo is fabulous and we love it, but closet space is quite limited and when family comes to visit it feels tiny.
We have been surprised to see how insane the Toronto market has gotten where every house has a bidding war, in some cases going $125,000 or more over asking!
Is anyone else house hunting and what are you finding the market in your area?

We have looked and always keep an eye on the market....way too expensive!
Where are you finding homes that are 125,000? I haven't seen anything close to that recently!

I think Ali was saying that someone bought a house for $125K over the asking price. Talk about desperation.
We bought our house last December in the DC area. We had a helluvah time getting one. 5 houses bids later, we finally landed our current home. Even though all the buzz was "buyer's market", sellers were not settling for low-ball offers just to get their house sold. They're holding out for the desperate buyers who will offer asking or more. B/c we were always offering below asking, we didn't get anywhere. We just couldn't compete and decided it wasn't worth it anyway.
I hated hearing it when it was our turn, but patience is all you can ask for. Keep waiting and looking. If you're patient the right opportunity will come along.
This will sounds weird, but I think the only reason we didn't have competition on the foreclosed house we finally bought is b/c I don't think anyone could get the front door open! My real estate agent and I worked on the front door for the better part of 10 minutes before I finally kicked the door really hard and it came un-jambed.

Thanks Spotty.....I looked at it. That's what I get for being on a computer for 12 hours straight :)
in THAT case, yes that's what I have been finding in Toronto too!
