I currently work in a field that I have no further interest in and in fact am job hunting for a new position in a completely different area of work.
My boss recently suggested that I pursue further education in the field I'm currently in, move up in the company and all that. While I am flattered, I have absolutely no desire to do it, the time and money investment isn't worth it and I want nothing to do with this area of work anymore.
I was hoping that I could juat resign instead of an answer, but I don't have a new position lined up yet.
What would you do?

There are so many factors involved. Can you afford to be without an income for awhile, do you know what type of work you want to do. Even where plays a part in what you decide to do. Are jobs easy to come by. Have you check into the cost of schooling and what is available to you?
If it was me I would be very careful and consider all my options. Perhaps get some employment counselling.
Good luck with what ever you choose to do, please keep us in the loop.
