I dont know what the reason behind it is, but I heard it is a throwback to the 1960's emblem. I personally like the old style leaf better, but in terms of reasoning for changing it, I do not know!

I just read the reasoning about it. They think its a "good omen". I guess we will see about that! haha.

Also found this. Which makes me like it a bit more!

"As an organization, we wanted to get back to our roots, when Conn Smythe first changed the team logo to the Maple Leaf in 1927," Leafs president Brendan Shanahan said in a release. "Inspired by the badge that he and his fellow Canadian soldiers wore during World War I, Smythe wanted his team to wear the badge with 'honour, pride and courage. This is our goal for the next chapter in Leafs history."

It's to celebrate the club's Centennial season. The logo was inspired by the classic Maple Leaf worn by the team from 1940-60's. It's actually the most iconic and popular logo in team history, as quoted in the article.

I have been a hopeful die heart fan of Toronto Maple Leafs for many years. I didn't even know they changed their logo. So happy they won their game last night first one in over time. Go Leafs Go !
