Nosy Hairdressers

Have you ever gone to a hairdresser that just wouldn't stop gossiping about other people? I recently had an appointment and I was disgusted by how much they were sharing personal information about their clients while everyone was able to hear. The hairdressers aren't the only ones to blame as some clients initiate the gossip themselves and try to get the hairdresser to join in. I personally knew one of the people they were talking about and felt so embarrassed for them. I ended up expressing my displeasure at the cash and withheld my tip for that session. I think it's completely unprofessional.

I prefer to stick to the basics as to what I want done to my hair and that's it. I refuse to share anything else about myself at a salon. Do you do the same?

On a similar note, I really can't stand it when they publicly humiliate their clients because of the state their hair is in. One hairdresser, in a loud voice, kept saying how fried her client's hair was and that she should take better care of it. So disrespectful! Do they not realize that the entire salon will then turn their focus on this one client? I've seen this happen many times and I rarely return to places that treat their customers this way.

That's awful. I go to two different salons and never had this experience. The only gossip we talk about are celebrity gossip.

That's so unprofessional and I really wouldn't want someone like that touching my hair.

My hairdresser is like that. She is the only one who can get my hair the colour I want but I can't stand her. She is so rude and talks about clients and everyone else under the sun.

As a hairdresser, I completely know what you're talking about! I left a salon for that reason, they were gossiping and being completely inappropriate. I'm so sorry you had this experience, but chin up! Hopefully you all find a great hairdresser who enjoys chatting, but is still professional :)

I'm glad some of you are getting better service and I'm sure there are lots of hairdressers out there that abide by an ethical code of conduct. Kudos to those who respect that!

That is so ugly! And highly inappropriate and unprofessional. I like having a rapport witj my stylist cause I'm friendly and chatty and I want to ensure I get what I'm asking for. General chit chat, celeb gossip, and other similar topics are fine but about other clients ... no way. I would have made a complaint too. But I would have left a tip. Not the money kind but the kind that tells her what an *** she is haha

I wouldn't go back - I don't care how good the cut and/or prices are.

I recently found a local hairdresser with a salon in her basement - she worked at a mainstream salon for 15 years and honed her skills before setting up shop.

She also fosters dogs, so I usually get puppy snuggles - I love it :)
