Hi ladies - I'm looking for rentail accomodation in NY. Anyone have experience with www.nyhabitat.com, www.feelnyc.com, www.airbnb.com, or any other apartment rentals websites in NY. We've found a few we like, but the word on the net is that many of these are scams. Don't want to find this out when we get there. If any of you can help with this - it would be great!

Are you looking for a long term rental because you're moving there or are you looking for more of a sublet?
If you're looking for a sublet, I went to NYC about 2 years ago for 3 weeks and found a sublet in Lower East Side Manhattan through Craigslist. It was $100/night which is pretty expensive but since it was for such a short time period, I couldn't really do anything for a longer sublet but this was still cheaper than staying at a hotel and I had a kitchen.
Craigslist was pretty scary for me since I hadn't done this before and it's very possible that when I went to NYC it'd be a scam but it wasn't. The woman was really nice and even took me out for dinner the first night! This is the house she lives in but she sublets it out when she travels (which is frequently I guess?) so I could give you her contact if you want and she might know other people.
If you're looking for a long term rental because you're moving there, from the research I've done it's best to go through a rental agent. It's pricier but I think it's easier and a lot of listing are posted through agents as opposed to online.
