One of my dogs has had a problem with black stuff in her ears for a while now. I have used Gold Medal mite and tick control as was recommended to me but it does not work.I have followed directions to a tee. The problem is not parasitical and was wondering if any of you had experienced a similar situation and how you dealt with it.Whatever it is, it is not transferable as the other ones dogs are not infected.

I am sorry to hear that, does the black stuff have an odour of some kind? I did a bit of research for you... I am no vet but, if so, it might be a yeast infection which is caused by something your pup may have had an allergic reaction to (maybe a food allergy)
Some dogs are really prone to ear infections while others may not be. Infections in dogs such as yeast are not able to be transferred from dog to dog. If it were mites, it would be contagious. I would recommend that you take your pup to the vet to get their ears checked out and see what they would tell you.

Is she a floppy eared dog? Dogs with ears that fold over can get infections easily. After you clean it (wipe the ear with a dry tissue, without sticking your fingers in her ears) does it come back quickly?
