It's definitely all psychological. It probably has something to do with our wants and desires. Whenever something you get something you want, you feel instantaneously happy, right? Whether or not it's physical possessions. I'm not sure if people who don't enjoy shopping would feel the same way... hmmmm

That's how I feel when I go shopping...
I was surprised today's de-stress didn't include that ..because if i'm in a major funk then i would probably go shopping then lunch/dinner .. that combo makes my heart happy <3 just thinking about it is putting a smile on my face :-)

I almost always feel excited after a new purchase!
Although I bought some funky tights the other day because there was a buy one get one half off sale, and as soon as I got home I decided I didn't actually want them -- so that left me feeling irritated that I'd have to go back to return them!

Am I the only one who feels guilty after shopping? Unless it's groceries I'm always second guessing myself about buying clothes, shoes, etc.

You get new things to use afterwards. But sometimes I feel like I really shouldn't have gotten it. Like, the new bag I got at the Mimi& Marge sample sale just yesterday. Well I was in need of a new bag and all of a sudden, i feel like Iike I shouldn't have gotten it. It's so weird...

Exhilarated, Happy, Optimistic, Confident ... are all the things I felt before I had bills and rent and grown up responsibilities. I was in 'back in the days' kind of mood when i initially responded to this thread.
I miss those days :(
You're absolutely right Ali, I feel a lot of guilt, and not just a bit of panic after buying something for myself. I feel like I just took $xxx away from my groceries, bills, etc. for this top/ bag / shoe.

This is why I actually don't shop very much - I always second guess myself afterward. With kids, a mortgage and car payments, there are always a million things I can apply that $150 toward rather than a new bag.
Strangely, I tend to not feel guilty when I go overboard shopping for my kids or husband (clothing, necessities, etc - not toys). That if anything is an area I need to clamp down on - my impulse buying at GAP kids and Gymboree!
