Before bed I read and drink sleepy time tea. If I really can't sleep, I listen to this hypnotic sleep app I've downloaded. It's called Deep Sleep by Glenn Harold. I find it really helps. I generally fall asleep part way through it, very early do I make it to the end of it.

Quand je fais de l'insomnie, je me lève et va regarder la télévision. Il m'arrive souvent de m'endormir dans la lasy boy.

I have this a lot. I usually read to get tired and I always wear a sleep mask when I go to bed so I don't see any blue or red lights from phones charging or clock alarms, etc. The sleep mask has been the best help so far.you can even get ones that bubble out at the eyes so your lashes don't rub against them. I also use a lavender chamomile scented lotion even if it's just on my hands. It's a very relaxing scent. I make sure I buy new pillows frequently as they aren't meant for a lifetime and it's amazing how good and comfy a new pillow can make you feel. Also, I make sure the room temperature is on the cool side and I have blankets to keep me warm if needed. Otherwise, at this time of year when my allergies are so bad I get such a stuffy nose that I can't breathe properly. All of these things are more on the preventative side but I have learned the sleeping environment is so important. But if it's just a case of not being able to sleep every now and then I would suggest reading and focusing on breathing deeply to relax your body. Also, melatonin helps some people. Although it's not the best thing to do I will occasionally take two gravol and it will knock me out for the night!

I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so have difficulties both falling and staying asleep (my brain never really gets into full REM mode and the neurons just don`t connect properly).
Besides doctor assisted remedies and medications, I find White Noise (I use Brown Noise as the White noise causes my Misophonia to be aggravated) is wonderful.
It blocks out sounds, and gives me something for my brain to focus on.
I had to start using that when the new people who moved into the townhouse beside ours started snoring...so loud that I can hear him through the wall. We never heard our neighbours before, so I feel for his family!
Good luck - not being able to sleep can be debilitating.
